Nigel Rapport

Nigel Rapport (* 1956 in Cardiff) ist ein britischer Ethnologe und Hochschullehrer.

Leben und Wirken

Nigel Rapport studierte Ethnologie bzw. Sozialanthropologie an der University of Cambridge und legte dort 1978 die Bachelorprüfung ab. 1982 erwarb er den Magistergrad und promovierte 1983 an der University of Manchester zum Ph.D. Ethnologische Feldforschungen betrieb er seit 1980 in Großbritannien, in Kanada (1984 bis 1987) und in Israel (1989). Als Hochschullehrer arbeitete er an der University of Manchester (1989 bis 1993), an der Ben-Gurion-Universität des Negev (1988/89). Seither ist er Professor an der University of St. Andrews. Gastprofessuren hatte er an zahlreichen Universitäten in Europa, Asien, Australien und den USA inne. Rapport gehört mehreren wissenschaftlichen Fachgesellschaften an und ist u. a. Mitglied der Royal Society of Edinburgh. In seinen zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen beschäftigt er sich neben der Geschichte und Methodologie der Sozialanthropologie mit Themen aus dem Bereich der Sozialtheorie, Individualität, Philosophie u. a.
