Pamaal (Urdu: پامال; lit. Trampled) is a Pakistani television drama series that premiered in 2025. It was written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah, directed by Khizer Idrees,^[1] and produced by Tehreem Chaudhary under the banner of Multiverse Entertainment.^[2] The series stars Saba Qamar as Malika, alongside Usman Mukhtar in leading roles. The series follows the journey of a woman whose decision to marry for love leads to emotional hardship, forcing her to rebuild her identity and independence.

The series was inspired by a real-life story.^[3] It received critical acclaim for its portrayal and performances.^[4]

Premise

The series centers on Malika, a young woman who leaves behind the comfort, security, and unconditional love of her family in pursuit of what she believes will be a lifelong romance. Filled with hope and dreams of building a happy future, she marries Raza, however, soon after her marriage, Malika realizes that reality is far different from the life she had imagined. The warmth she longed for is replaced by emotional distance, controlling behavior, and a marriage burdened by misunderstandings and unresolved conflicts. As the pressures of her new life grow, she is forced to navigate heartbreak, isolation, and the painful consequences of decisions that reshape her relationships with both her husband and her loved ones.

Production

Pamaal was written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and directed by Khizer Idrees. The series was produced by Tehreem Chaudhary under the banner Multiverse Entertainment.^[7] Principal photography took place from August to November 2026 in Islamabad and Murree.^[8]

Release

The series premiered on October 6, 2025 on Green Entertainment, with episodes also made available on YouTube.^[2]

Reception

Pamaal received attention for the leads' performances and its portrayal of emotional and psychological struggles within marriage.^[9]^[10]

In reviewe of the first-two epsiodes for The News International, the reviewer praised direction, visuals, and performance of Qamar but found Mukhtar's performance repetitive due to his familiar brooding expression.^[11] A The Friday Times-based praised the performances of Saba Qamar, Usman Mukhtar, the supporting cast, and the beautiful Murree setting, but criticised the flawed script, unrealistic situations, inconsistent characterisation, and weak storytelling, arguing that these shortcomings prevent the series from reaching its potential. ^[12]
