Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave[a] is an upcoming tactical role-playing video game published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch 2. Taking place in the Dagdan Empire, the premise revolves around the Heroic Games in which four playable protagonists participate to earn their desired wish. It will be the eighteenth main installment in the Fire Emblem series, following Fire Emblem Engage (2023).

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is scheduled to be released for the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026.[1][2][3]

Gameplay

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is a tactical role-playing game. Players are able to choose out of four protagonists, those being Cai, Theodora, Dietrich, or Leda, each leading to their own individual route.[4] As with previous entries, Fortune's Weave features a turn-based battle system on grid-based maps.[4] Returning features from previous Fire Emblem games include Combat Arts, Gambits and Weapon Durability. Fortune's Weave also features mechanics originating from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, including Crests and Hero's Relics.[5] Outside of battle, the game progresses through a calendar system in which the player has limited time between battles to explore Dagsion, the game's hub area, where they can train, eat meals with allies, or recruit new units. The game also allows the protagonist to venture outside of Dagsion and fight in dungeons, a feature previously seen in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.[4] Fortune's Weave also features brand new mechanics, including Blaze Arts that cost HP rather than Weapon Durability from Combat Arts, as well as new mounts such as the Ornius.[5]

Setting

Fortune's Weave takes place in the same universe as Fire Emblem: Three Houses, with its primary setting being in the Empire of Dagda's capital, Dagsion.[4] The empire is situated on the continent of Dagda, separated by sea from Fódlan. The game revolves around the "Heroic Games", a gladiator-like tournament taking place in Dagsion, in which the winner is granted one wish by the Divine Sovereign, the central figure hosting the games.[5] The four playable protagonists all take part in this tournament, each with their own motivation, with Cai seeking to free his father, Dietrich looking for a stronger foe, Theodora wanting to fulfill the dreams of her kingdom, and Leda aiming for revenge.[4] Whether Fortune's Weave takes place as a prequel or a sequel relative to Three Houses has not been confirmed.[6]

Development

The game was announced during a Nintendo Direct in September 2025. The trailer teased a character, Sothis, from the 2019 release Fire Emblem: Three Houses, linking the two games together.[7] The release date of September 17, 2026 was confirmed as part of the June 2026 Nintendo Direct.

A Nintendo Direct dedicated to the game was aired on August 4, 2026, and a "Special Release" playlist containing ten of the game's music tracks was added to the Nintendo Music app that same day. [8] [9]
