ICC Asia and Africa

Currently the International Cricket Council article lists Asian Cricket Council and Africa Cricket Association as the regional bodies for administration. This is seen across multiple pages including the ICC-administered events such as 2028 Men's T20 World Cup qualification.

But ACC and ACA are independent bodies that are completely autonomous of ICC regional bodies. ICC Asia and ICC Africa are still in-charge of conducting global pathway events, even in the list of members of ICC, teams like Japan and Indonesia are classified as belonging to Asia/EAP, while they solely are members of ICC from EAP region but separately hold the membership of ACC too. This distinction among regional organizations should be implemented, what do others think?

@Cric editor: While the refs confirm their membership to the ICC, there's no source confirming if whether something called "ICC Asia" and "ICC Africa" even exists..? I've searched about this once too and wrote up List of International Cricket Council members#Regional bodies with what I was able to gather on the internet.. Vestrian24Bio 06:39, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

The fact that multiple teams hold membership across regions points towards this. Besides, in 2016 Aminul Islam was appointed as ICC Asian regional development officer (1, 2). Note that this stint of his is completely different from his term as development officer for China, Thailand and other teams from ACC (3). Even regarding membership of ACC, some of the associate members of ICC (UAE, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore and Thailand) are considered as full members under ACC (About ACC). Cric editor (talk) 07:17, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

ICC Asia/Africa was a project by the ICC about 10/15 years ago. There was always the idea to transform the continental cricket councils (like the ECC) into ICC affiliates (a bit like football for regional qualifiers they effectively first used for the World Cricket League). So the ICC founded them and in Europe and Pacific/East Asia they replaced the Cricket Councils. In Asia they did not like it and kept their independence (Africa I assume as well) and so the affiliations are effectively today more an internal tool for development and charity. The ACC and ACA are technically independent and especially the ACC is due to the Asia Cup also financially on top. So yes they exist, and are different from the two councils. And the qualifiers have nothing to do with either the ACC or ICC Asia, they are as war as I know directly organised by the ICC. At least the European ones are clear in their marketing that the qualifying events are ICC direct (and not ICC Europe). Cricket is no Football and ICC not FIFA. So they should be thrown out of the info box there (unless we find concrete sources showing their organisation of the events).--Maphry (talk) 21:14, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

Article needing cleanup

Bangladesh–India cricket rivalry (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Came upon this recently created article (initiated by @AristocrSirr22) which appears to have since been fed increasing OR. From the looks of it entire sections were lifted from India–Pakistan cricket rivalry (e.g. here ) with a find and replace executed. I am not sure of the notability either (might be liable for AfD) but this certainly requires a cleanup.

I see that the article has passed through AfD (1, and another but for mostly for procedural reasons 2). So cleanup is the thing that is needed here (stated in both AfDs). Gotitbro (talk) 14:13, 16 July 2026 (UTC)

Looks like yet another case of rivalry overstatement, such as we often see at WP:FOOTY. I don't think the rivalry between India and Bangladesh is any more intense than the normal level of competition between Test teams, and it's much less than England v Australia. I agree they both have historic rivalries with Pakistan. As for cleanup, the first thing it needs is a dose of WP:NOTSTATS. Jack (talk) 14:35, 16 July 2026 (UTC)

Yep, I dislike many of the similar footy articles that create a rivalry based on stats from teams who happen to have played each other frequently. I've removed a bunch of nicknames that are either unsourced, or sourced only to a personal blog. Spike 'em (talk) 15:04, 16 July 2026 (UTC)

@Spike 'em: Yes, these appear to have been entirely made up . The opener of the article also reads thus: "The India–Bangladesh cricket rivalry is one of the most intense sports rivalries in Asia." I doubt it: Afghanistan–Pakistan sports rivalries, Japan–South Korea sports rivalries, China–Japan football rivalry, China–South Korea football rivalry, Iran–Iraq football rivalry, Iran–Saudi Arabia football rivalry, Thailand–Vietnam football rivalry, Australia–Japan football rivalry, Australia–India cricket rivalry, Japan–United States women's soccer rivalry and on and on.

Looks like the drive-by editors who've added fluff here also did the same at another newly minted article: Bangladesh–Sri Lanka cricket rivalry. Which includes this nonsense, The Naagin Derby, is an intense cricket rivalry. That name appears to be largely a joke . Gotitbro (talk) 18:59, 16 July 2026 (UTC)

Done. We now have two separate tour articles, plus a disambig page. It's exactly what Lugnuts did with New Zealand cricket team in Pakistan in 2022–23, so we should follow that precedent if a similar case should arise in future. Thanks, Jack (talk) 15:21, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
