Directed by George Miller
Max Rockatansky returns as the heroic loner who drives the dusty roads of a postapocalyptic Australian Outback in an unending search for gasoline. Arrayed against him and the other scraggly defendants of a fuel-depot encampment are the bizarre warriors commanded by the charismatic Lord Humungus, a violent leader whose scruples are as barren as the surrounding landscape.

The truly unique thing about the Mad Max franchise is how Max is less a character than a mythic figure, and how each film is less an entry in a continuing story and more a retelling of the myth of Max, with the details getting more extravagant and incredible as time goes on. It’s one of my favorite narrative conceits, and it works incredibly in this film, which is explicitly framed as the recollections of an old man, telling the story of the hero who saved him.
Fury Road may be better but does that movie have a helicopter guy? I didn't think so

- could you imagine if George Miller made a Star Wars movie. this movie feels so distinctly inspired by Star Wars. i need lucasfilm to get BROKE and start making some big swings

- the secret to a good child performance is not letting them talk
- the timeline of these movies is hilariously confounding. the amount the world has changed by Furiosa is insane. don’t even think about it.
- for all the criticism of how Fury Road isn’t even a Mad Max movie because of Furiosa (dumb, tinged with misogyny) The Road Warrior is very much a movie…

And the Road Warrior?
That was the last we ever saw of him.
He lives now only in my memories.
So, uh, yeah. I probably should have watched this sooner. (In my defense, I had seen MAD MAX and didn't particularly like it.) This movie is exactly one year and one day younger than I am, but it’s aged so much better than me.
Next up, MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME. I'll be similarly wowed by that one, right? Right? Where are you guys going? Don't you want to watch it with me?
You expect me to root against a guy wearing assless chaps?
Kinda wish Fury Road was also this homoerotic.
I remember a time of chaos... ruined dreams... this wastedland. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior.
Incredible the way this movie amplifies the mythology of Mad Max— Miller is cooking with rocket fuel.
