FIDO Alliance (Fast IDentity Online) is a non-profit organization that develops open standards for secure online sign-in and authentication. It was founded in February 2013 and its headquarter is in Beaverton, Oregon.[2][3]
The alliance created the U2F, UAF and FIDO2 authentication standards. FIDO2 allows people to sign in with security keys, smartphones, fingerprints or face recognition instead of passwords.[4]
As of 2026, the alliance has several hundred member companies like Google, Microsoft and Apple Inc. around the world.[5]
