Carl Filip Anton Forsberg (born 13 August 1994) is a Swedish professional ice hockey left winger. He currently plays for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL) and serves as an alternate captain.
Forsberg is a two-time All-Star, being named one in 2015 and 2024.
Career
[change | change source]Before playing in the NHL, Forsberg played three seasons with Leksands IF of the Allsvenskan.
He was drafted 11th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL entry draft.[1] On 13 July 2012, Forsberg signed a three-year, $2.775 million entry-level contract to join the Capitals.[2] He never played a game for the Capitals. On 3 April 2013, the Capitals traded Forsberg to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Martin Erat and Michael Latta.[3]
On 14 April 2013, Forsberg made his NHL debut in a 3–0 loss against the Detroit Red Wings.[4] On 23 April, he recorded his first NHL point, assisting on a David Legwand goal in a 4–3 win against the Calgary Flames.[5] On 8 October 2013, Forsberg scored his first NHL goal against Niklas Bäckström in a 3–2 win against the Minnesota Wild.[6] He was sent down to their AHL-affiliate Milwaukee Admirals and later brought back up. On 10 January 2015, he was selected for his first NHL All-Star Game where he also became the first player in Predators history to score a goal in the All-Star game.[7][8] On 23 April during Game 5 of the Western Conference first round, Forsberg scored his first NHL career hat-trick in a 5–2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks.[9] On 27 June 2016, Forsberg signed a six-year, $36 million contract to stay with the Predators.[10] He helped the Predators when they went on a run in the playoffs. They defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, and Anaheim Ducks on route to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance in Predators franchise history. They were eventually defeated by the Pittsburgh Penguins four games to two in the Finals.[11] On 19 September, the Predators named Forsberg as one of their alternate captains.[12]
On 11 July 2022, Forsberg signed a eight-year, $68 million contract to stay with the Predators.[13] On 24 February 2024, Forsberg scored a goal in a 4–2 win against the San Jose Sharks. By scoring the goal, Forsberg passed David Legwand to become the Predator's second all-time franchise goals leader.[14]
Personal life
