Metroidvania

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Metroidvania is a genre of games that is characterized by open world design that is not strictly guided in any area order. This word is a merge of the title Metroid and the title Castlevania, called this because it uses characteristics from both games. The map is often built with large, connected areas, although some areas are usually restricted until the player get special items, abilities, or knowledge within the game.
