Tatsumi Kimishima
Tatsumi Kimishima (君島 達己, Kimishima Tatsumi; born April 21, 1950) is a Japanese businessman who was the 5th president of Nintendo from September 2015 to June 2018. He was formerly the president of Nintendo of America from January 2002 to May 2006, when Reggie Fils-Aime took his spot.[1] In May 2006, he became CEO and chairman of the board of Nintendo of America, and stayed in this role until June 2013, when he was promoted to managing director.[2]
Kimishima became president of Nintendo Inc. in September 2015, stepping in after the death of Satoru Iwata.[2][3] He stepped down as president in June 2018, and Shuntaro Furukawa took over.[4]
Before he started working in the video game business, Kimishima was a banker at the Sanwa Bank of Japan with a background in finance.[5] He was offered a job by Hiroshi Yamauchi, who wanted him to manage money for an American branch of the Pokémon franchise.[6] Kimishima took the job and became the chief financial officer of The Pokémon Company in December 2000.[7][8] In 2001, he was made president of Pokémon USA Inc and worked there for a year.[5] During Kimishima's early time working there, a number of popular Pokémon games were released.
