Starting in 1996, Alexa Internet has been donating their crawl data to the Internet Archive. Flowing in every day, these data are added to the Wayback Machine after an embargo period.
Thanks to Google Earth the world became a digital global village. Global Village is a contribution by the Tandwielfabriek to ErasmusPC. Once every 2 weeks two pictures of places somewhere on this little planet will appear.

The British MP Alan Simpson has a passion for urban regeneration. At the same time, he has a deep-felt aversion to many developers, urban planners and architects who fail to adopt a sustainable approach to the built environment. “Their plans provide no room for generating energy locally, water reuse systems or recycling systems. It’s criminal. In this age, we should actually be thinking further than our own boxes and looking for renewable energy without waste. We need visions to make our cities sustainable.”
Last monthPluspunt the magazine of the department of housing and planning in Rotterdam (dS+V) publieshed an interview with ErasmusPC members Jeroen Laven and Csaba Zsiros about ErasmusPC. The interview was in Dutch (click on the photo). The English translation is added below.
ErasmusPC It started years ago during a study in Dublin. A group of international students kept on meeting each other after their student-time, philosophing about cities worldwide in the broadest meaning of the world. A year ago this led to an initiative: ErasmusPC, an international network for cities and culture
Searching for the soul of the city Among people from dS+V (the housing and planning department of the city of Rotterdam) ErasmusPC is known for its interviews with Hans Goedhart and Marien de Langen that were published on the website recently. Jeroen Laven (manager at the planning section) and Csaba Zsiros (landscape architect at urban design section) are two of the people that founded ErasmusPC. They talk about how this initiative has grown into an international network of enthusiastic people, who inspire each other via the website, newsletter and meetings.
This Sunday, a poem posted on a wall in San Juan, Puerto Rico, expressing the poet's reaction to a graffiti mural painted by an unknown artist. This CityPoem was sent in by Dan McCormack.
Last week was the festive opening of our new theatre / centre for arts education. The theatre is the most expensive theatre in Europe - 78 million euro's - and was designed bij Seijima, the Japanese architect.
It's a wonderful building, which seems to float on the lake. Over 20.000 people visited the open weekend, which is really amazing considering the fact that culture in my city is not very big....in fact: going to the theatre or an 'artfilm' you always meet the same people.
I really really hope that this theatre will not only be an expensive, beautiful building, but will become a symbol of the start of a vital cultural life in my city.
