Tre explicit_lyrics

I recently purchased Uno!, Dos! and Tre! at the same time. I opted for the clean versions for a couple of reasons. The first is because I have young kids and I want to share this with them. The second reason is because I like the creative way they replaced all of the F-bombs Billie Joe likes to drop using sounds like an electric guitar fill or other sound effect. I originally bought the regular version of Uno! and I actually prefer the clean, edited version. Go figure.

I've read a lot of the reviews online about these 3 albums and it seems most people are missing the point. Sure, the timing of the releases in relation to what the band was going through at the time, the amount of songs to digest in a short period of time and the seemingly lack of marketing on these CD's seems to have hurt the sales but good music or good art is not about sales.

I believe the point Green Day is trying to make is they can make an epic trilogy of music the same way George Lucas made an epic trilogy of movies. Each album stands on its own just like each Star Wars movie stands on its own but when taken as a trilogy they really fit together and are even better than the sum of their parts, just like Green Day themselves.

These 3 albums will grow on you if you let them. It took about 3 times of listening to Uno! front to back to finally sink in where they are going with this trilogy. After that the other two albums fell into place and it all made sense.

Uno! opens the trilogy with a Green Day sound that falls somewhere between Nimrod and American Idiot. It's the most punk rock power pop CD of the set. I compare it to Star Wars Episode IV because it sounds more like Green Day when they were young and hungry much the same way it felt to watch the young and hungry Luke Skywalker when he was realizing that he is a Jedi. I really love every song on this CD but if I had to pick the weakest song it is ironically the single Kill the DJ. I really like the guitars in Kill the DJ but to me the lyrics and melody are not very creative. It's surrounded by two killer songs though, Let Yourself Go and the awesome Fell For You which should have been a single.

Dos! is the darkest and rawest album just like Empire Strikes Back is the darkest of the Star Wars movies. It sounds more like a follow up album for Foxboro Hot Tubs than a typical Green Day album. If they weren't making a trilogy this album may not exist as a Green Day album even though it stands on its own. The guitars sound more like Gretsch guitars rather than Gibson or Fender guitars on most of the songs on this album. They have a kerrang quality to their sound although they still rock hard. They have one filler on this album though, Nightlife. I do give them credit for stretching their boundaries though since this is the least sounding Green Day song I've ever heard from them.

Tre! brings Green Day back up to date. It is the most adventurous of the trilogy and is a satisfying climax. It feels like the most natural progression of Green Day coming from 21st Century Breakdown but without most of the politics. I think if Green Day made only one CD instead of 3 they most likely would have chosen the songs and direction on Tre! I'm really glad they decided to make a trilogy instead of one CD though because I really like 35 of the 37 songs and the two fillers are still good! It would be great to see Green Day one day be publically recognized for what they accomplished here. It would also be great to see Green Day perform the whole trilogy from start to finish in concert. Idiot Epic!

Uno, Dos, and Tre have become my favorite Green Day albums so far. For various reasons I lost track of them after 21st Century Breakdown and only recently finally got these three CDs a few months ago (2017). I've been listening to them pretty much non-stop whenever I'm in my car. There's so much variety of musical styles in them that there's not much reason to listen to anything else :) There doesn't seem to be a theme underlying them like in American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, but it's a nice change to be able to switch around to different songs without messing up the story.

These CDs have an awesome loose, live feel to them, and yet the the music is extremely clean, punchy, and tight... Sort of like that Led Zeppelin 'light and shade' thing. They really come alive when you turn up the volume. It seems almost like Green Day took an 'anything goes' mindset into these songs and let themselves go in all sorts of different directions (they've always done this to some extent, but took it further with these). In addition to punchy punk, there's funk, 50s-60s pop, rockabilly, psychedelic... There are even some guitar solos! I like the dirty one in Amanda, for example. But even though they incorporate all these far-flung elements into the songs, they are still very clearly Green Day songs with that super-tight punchy rock core.

If I were to roughly summarize them, I'd say Uno is classic Green Day-- fast, fun, hard rocking. Great songs like Nuclear Family, Carpe Diem, Let Yourself Go, Stay the Night, etc. This is a great CD to turn up loud while driving. Dos is complex, with all sorts of interesting and awesome songs like Night Life, Lady Cobra, Stray Heart (rockabilly?), Wow That's Loud (psychedelic?). Some of my favorite songs of the 3 CDs are on Dos: Lazy Bones and Baby Eyes. Hard to say 'favorite' though when there are so many songs I like this much on all 3. Tre is awesome, I guess it's more rock-oriented. Brutal Love is big, dramatic, amazing. I love that song. Also X-kid, A Little Boy Named Train, Walk Away... Dirty Rotten Bastards......! I love that one (though the first line seems like asking for trouble :)

Anyway, I think I will always be listening to these 3 albums. They're just that good. Definitely all three would be on my 'stranded on an island' list. I wish I could have seen Green Day play these live, but hopefully they are keeping a lot of these songs in their current setlists.

Well, this is the final stop of our big journey, Tre. No matter what some people might think about the idea of making three albums instead of one complete set, I think this was a great experience for the band as well as their fans.

Tre is a stand out because it has that Green Day vibe that most people love them for, and in some parts it reminds me of their previous albums like Nimrod, Warning, American Idiot, and 21CB stuck ck all together in one album, but with more simple and shorter songs. Brutal Love is a wonderful ballad which is great to listen while getting up in the morning; Missing You is kind of mix of Nimrod and American Idiot features; 8th Avenue Serenade is my personal favorite with its unusual stops and exceptional harmonies; X-Kid is another fans' favorite song; Drama Queen is a really pretty ballad that was performed live already three years ago; Sex, Drugs, and Violence could perfectly fit on Uno since it has some pop-punk vibe; Little Boy Named Train was the one that I didn't dig at first but eventually got used to; Walk Away is a great song and sounds like it could be a single of the Warning album; Dirty Rotten Bastards is probably one of the most fun songs Green Day has ever made; 99 Revolutions is another stand out, though chorus is on the loop, which makes the song a little repetitive; The Forgotten is a perfect ending ballad, and I am not surprised that "The Twilight" movie picked the song as one of their dominants.

Anyways, I am glad to hear some new songs from these guys. They really deserve much more attention than they currently have. Rock is literally dying, and all people have now is old records of The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, and other great artists that made wonderful music. Fortunately, Green Day are still making a good stuff, and we should be thankful for still hearing some new good songs.

It's not often that the best item in a trilogy comes last, but that is definitely the case with Tre! I have listened to Green Day for years now, and was so impressed with American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown that I planned on picking up these albums immediately upon release, something I rarely do.

Uno was decent, although it seemed to have a lot of filler around the good tunes.

Dos I listened to about 3 times and haven't wanted to go back. It definitely felt to me like they wrote a bunch of tunes and decided to sell them all instead of just putting the best ones down, and I figured the best had already happened on Uno.

If I thought so much less of Dos, I was worried just how bad I would think that Tre was. I wasn't going to order it until I read a few reviews here that said that it was surprisingly good, and I figured that it was worth picking up. I'm so glad that it did.

This is the Green Day that took a huge step up for me with the two albums I named above. It has a little of everything, and is the best sounding Green Day songs in a long time. Standout songs are X-Kid, 99 Revolutions, the Forgotten and Dirty Rotten Bastards. If Uno or Dos disappointed you, get this. And if you didn't get either of those, get this first and decide if you want the others. It's worth it!

Summary: This is the only album of the 3 that I feel deserves to be sold at regular price. Overall, the quality of the album average-good according to Green Day standards. Instrumentation was top notch, but lyrics seem to be lacking/confusing/wtf at times. While this is to be somewhat expected out of Green Day, this album, as well as the other 2 seem to be dragged down by lyrics, and the instrumentation tries to come in and save the day.

Favorites: Missing You, X-Kid, Dirty Rotten Bastards

Flops: Brutal Love, Amanda,

Brutal Love: Seems like a b-side song that they tried to make into something it is not. I enjoy the arrangement, but the lyrics were just lacking

Missing You: This upbeat song would have been great to start the album off with a bang, even though it covers a sappy subject. The lyrics are simple, but catchy and make since. Great bass line in the middle and nice drum fill in the bridge to bring back the song into the chorus.

8th Avenue Serenade: Very catchy, very good instrumentation, but one of those songs that after hearing, you are thinking wtf is he talking about and what point was the song trying to get to.

Drama Queen: Lyrics that make enough since that you can infer what the point is. Also includes a double entendre "old enough to bleed now". Very simple instrumentation, but it is so catchy, and really is a nice change of pace.

X-Kid: Lyrics make since and portray a powerful message. This is a song that seems carefully crafted and is one of my favorite of the trilogy. Instruments come in strong we needed.

Sex, Drugs, & Violence: Not a hit song, but a good filler song and definitely sounds like a Green Day song. Lyrics are average, but extremely catchy. Bass player gets a few vocal moments of fame.

A Little Boy Named Train: Has the feeling of old school Green Day that everybody loves. Instrumentation is top notch. It seems that the instrumentation goes all out to try and overcome all the random lyrics that don't make a whole lot of sense together. In parts, the lyrics are catchy and are written well, but the parts don't fit together.

Amanda: B-side song that they tried to through a bunch of nice instrumentation on top of in order to make it album worry. However, it still only manages to be 2 minutes and about 30 seconds. I just did not quite get would the lyrics were supposed to mean once again.

Walk Away: This song jumps between filler and hit song. Lyrics are a little too simple at times, but also pretty smart and catchy at other times. I used to think it was just a filler song, but it really has been growing on me. "Well the bigger that you call All the lying I can’t afford, Walk away" Really like how he puts the line; when people call you out on the bluff of the bs you've been trying to hide.

Dirty Rotten Bastards: Very open, balls to the wall, all hands on deck song. Signature Green Day multiple song ideas within one song. Less structure than most songs, so everybody goes crazy. I'm sure they will love playing this song live adding their own random parts each night. Lyrics are a little random, but with an open song like this, that's just fine. One of the best on the record

99 Revolutions: Simple understandable lyrics, good instrumentation, deals with 99%ers. Personally, I thought the song was structured well, but I just was not really interested in the topic, so the song was not real interesting to me.

The Forgotten: Despite the twilight label, this is a great song. It is clear this one was well thought out and took a lot of studio time. Musically, this song is very sound. Has a similar sound to Time of your life(good riddance). However, this song is engineered, whereas the song that has had a cult following is naturally constructed, emotionally heartfelt simply beautiful. The Forgotten will be forgotten rather quickly while Time of your life lives on for ages.

Let me just start by saying that I haven't given this another proper listening to to make a good, in-depth review, but this is just my first impression. I thought Uno! was a great album, Dos! was even better, so naturally I had high expectations for Tre!, but they just weren't quite met. I feel like the band just kinda ran out of ideas by the time they started recording for this album. I can't complain too much though, releasing 3 brand new albums over the course of just 4 months was a very ambitious project, and I applaud them for taking on such a daunting task.

tl;dr version: Not their best album, but I give them A for effort.

The thing I've enjoyed most about the Uno, Dos, Tre trilogy is the mix of punk, pop, rock and (to the disgust of many judging from the reviews of Dos) even urban. Most of the songs on Tre are good old rock and roll, with the exceptions of two punk songs: Sex, Drugs and Violence and Dirty Rotten Bastards. The melodies are fantastic, lyrics are strong and the production is, as usual for Green Day, amazing. So if you don't mind more of a pop/rock emphasis than a punk flavor, you will love this CD.

If you are a fan of punk, then Dirty Rotten Bastards will be heaven for you. It has all the earmarks of a Green Day classic. Brutal Love is a memorable, moving song in the blues-rock classic fashion. X-Kid's sound is reminiscent of late 80's rock and the theme is original and relevant to today's youth - it's another song that deserves to be in a "best of" someday. That's three songs, but the ones in between are great songs as well. There really is not a song on this CD you should skip, and that's a rarity these days.

This album really did it for me in a way the other two didn't so much. Perhaps it was because I was drunk. It at least helped with the lyric hangups (I didn't even bother following along with the lyrics booklet this time). "Dirty Rotten Bastards" was strangely awesome to me. It was like the sprawling nonsense they released on American Idiot and 20th Century Breakdown, except they weren't making a failed attempt to be totally deep. I think it's my favorite song out of the three albums.

This is a case where I would say quantity is appreciated over quality. I haven't really cared for much that Green Day has released in over a decade, yet this is the first band I ever loved and they've never stopped being able to construct good songs, so I'm thankful we suddenly got three albums worth of nice songs in three months, and damn pleased the last one is the best.

And heck, I would even be glad to purchase that "Quatro!" album with the leftovers...

Uno! mi è piaciuto da subito e l'ho ascoltato non stop.

Dos! Contiene alcuni brani molto belli (1-8) ma non mi è piaciuto da subito...Sotto le aspettive e non raggiunge lo standard messo da Uno!

Per quanto riguardo Tre!, devo dire che é fantastico, non so quale album sia meglio tra Uno! e Tre!.

La mia canzone preferita è "Dirty rotten bastards". Altre degne di essere nominate sono: "brutal love, "X-Kid", "99 revolutions" e "sex,drugs & violence".

Per quanto riguarda "the forgotten", devo dire che è un capolavoro assoluto. Conclude degnamente la trilogia!

Ottimo imballaggio e spedizione velocissima! Album ordinato e uscito il 11/12 e arrivato oggi 12/12.

Nun haben wir mit allen 3 Lp's von Green Day 37 Songs in kürzester Zeit geboten bekommen und das Ergebnis der nun aktuellsten Platte ist für mich persönlich am besten gelungen.

Man konnte wohl kaum erwarten das sich alle 3 Alben gleich anhören, wäre auch langweilig gewesen. Mit Tre! geht es nun musikalisch wieder etwas mehr in die Richtung der vergangenden Studioalben "American Idiot" und "21st Century..." Dieser Sound spiegelt sich vor allem in den schnellen Liedern "Missing you", "8th Avennue Serenade" und "99 Revolutions" wieder, welches aber noch lange nicht die einzigsten sind die nach vorne gehen.Und eigentlich kann man auch bei dieser LP den ja so geliebten 90er Jahre Sound raushören.

Bei Uno und Dos waren mir irgendwie zu wenig Ohrwümer dabei, was nun sehr viel besser ist.

Jeder hat einen anderen Geschmack und eine Vorstellung wie sich ein Green Day Album anhören soll und für mich ist das 3te der Trilogie nun doch das Beste. Sehr abwechslungsreich, es bleiben ein paar Lieder mehr im Ohr und es gibt eigentlich kein Lied was man "wegskippen" müsste(Ansichtssache eben).Die Platte beginnt bedrohlich langsam mit einer Ballade so das man sich gleich Gedanken macht was da wohl jetzt auf einen zukommt, aber man kann unbesorgt sein, das Album rockt.

Am Ende kriegt man mit "The Forgotten" auch nochmal ne schöne traurige Schnulze zu hören. Wenn ich nun die Trilogie komplett bewerten müsste wären es wohl 4 Sterne, da bei 37 Songs natürlich nicht alles ganz rund sein kann. Das ist auch unmöglich jeden Hörer so zu begeistern das ihm von so einer Riesenauswahl fast alles gefällt.

Aber zur jetzigen Platte kommt noch hinzu das man für einen kleinen Aufpreis ein T-Shirt dazu bekommt mit schönen grellen Farben.Ok, bei Uno und Dos gab es auch T-Shirts aber das musste jetzt nicht unbedingt sein für mich da mir die Musik doch wichtiger ist und mir die CD selber reichte.

Tre! kam nun über einen Monat früher als eigentlich vorhergesagt. Ich weis es nicht aber es könnte damit zusammenhängen das es was mit Billie's derzeitigen Problemen zu tun hat und man da jetzt erstmal so schnell es geht ne Pause machen will, was verständlich wäre.

Fazit: Wie schon in der Überschrift zu lesen ist, ist Tre! für mich überzeugend.

An die genialen Alben American Idiot und 21th Century Breakdown kommen sie aber allesamt nicht ran.

Live sind die Jungs immer noch am allerbesten, das kann ich nur jedem Mal empfehlen. EInen guten Vorgeschmack gibt ds Live-Album Bullet in a bible.

No Green Day fan cannot not love it! How many bands can release 3 albums worth of great tunes so quickly after an awesome album in 21st Century Breakdown. Different slant, but still GD with style!
