    Johnny Carson is gone but his colorful NBC orchestra leader, Doc Severinsen is alive and well in this album featuring his unmistakable sound. Wonderful arrangements of old standards pay tribute to this era and highlight Doc's amazing talent. Few trumpeters can go as high for a long and with the tonal quality exhibited in this disc. There is even a nice tip of the cap to Count Basie in the rendition of April in Paris. If you are a fan of the big brass swing band sound, herrrrrrres Doc Severinsen

    Great album if you want to hear great lead trumpet

    Doc Severinsen was at the height of his abilities when this was recorded. (I think this album is made up of selections from some albums cut with the Tonight Show orchestra in the mid-1980's).

    The album is a hallmark of clean, clear "lead" trumpet playing -- Doc was always great at that kind of 50's/60's Big Band romping lead trumpet playing, and this album features him at his peak. There are a number of fun songs here, with great charts and playing by real pros.

    You have to like stomping big bands to like the music on this album, and if you do, you'll like the album.

    Wow I always loved the Tonight show theme on Johnny Carson. The music was awesome. Anyway so glad Amazon had this cause it lifts my spirits up listening to it everytime! Thank you Amazon!!

    Doc is so much fun! His renditions are joyful, creative, and insightful. I'll always remember those special nights when the late Pete 'Fountain played with Doc and his band as an annual guest on the Tonight show. How I'd like to purchase a DVD compilation of those magic nights.

    Severinsen is the recipient of a recent PBS American Experience profile, but as a musician myself the bio

    wasn’t necessary to convince me Doc is the greatest,

    or amongst the ranks of Ziggy Ellman, Harry James et.al.as in very top tier!

    This CD is slapdash, older and newer obscure tracks which are not famous, or obscure masterpieces either.

    The recording is good but has a strange rather “distant” microphonic sound.

    Every song on this CD is wonderful!!! In the Mood is the best arrangement I've ever heard. Georgia on My Mind has masterful improv. This version of One O'Clock Jump makes every other arrangement sound like it's only 12:15. Doc and his band are solid on this one. You MUST add it to your collection
