The DC Universe is home to some of the most powerful characters in all of comics. With a plethora of different powers and abilities within the universe, many DC heroes end up with a combination of several abilities, making for some incredibly powerful individuals.
For many comic book heroes though, telepathy is a common, useful, and powerful ability that many seem to be in possession of. While it is a common super power, not everyone uses telepathy in the same manner. Regardless of good and evil intentions, some characters are simply just more powerful telepaths than others. To honor some of those individuals, here is our list of the 10 most powerful telepaths in the DC Universe.
10 Hector Hammond
Hector Hammond is typically a Green Lantern villain, and also one of DC’s most powerful telepaths. After being exposed to the same meteor fragment that created Gorilla Grodd and other members of Gorilla City, Hammond’s mind began to evolve, growing larger in both size and intellect.
Because of this, Hammond developed all sorts of mental abilities, including telepathy. Over the years, he has been one of Hal Jordan’s deadliest opponents. Likewise, his incredible intelligence, combined with his mental powers, only make him more dangerous. Though he is a lesser known Green Lantern villain, Hector Hammond is still a mental force to be reckoned with.
9 Psimon
Many fans may recognize Psimon from his few appearances on the popular show, Young Justice. Like his animated counterpart, Psimon in the comics is an incredibly powerful telepath. While he is typically a Titans/Teen Titans villain, Psimon is still a very dangerous foe. Originally a scientist working on ways to discover other dimensions, the demon, Trigon eventually took interest and bestowed his powers upon him.
Under Trigon’s influence, Psimon set out to do as much damage as possible. Though Trigon would eventually lose interest in him, Psimon would retain his abilities and continue his evil journey on his own. Since his powers came directly from one of the most powerful characters in all of DC Comics, it makes sense that Psimon would be one of the most powerful telepaths in all of the DC Universe.
8 Raven
Thanks to her father’s DNA, Raven possesses an incredible number of abilities, with telepathy being one of them. In actuality though, Raven is a bit more of an empath than a telepath. This means that she can read emotions of those nearby and adjust them as she sees fit.
While it is not exactly telepathy, Raven continually grows stronger the more she learns to control her father’s abilities. Potentially, Raven could one day be the most powerful telepath in all of the Dc Universe. For now though, her limited abilities hold her at a lower point on this list.
7 Manchester Black
Like Hector Hammond, Manchester Black is another lesser-known DC character. Very little is actually known about Black’s history, though he has implied that he had an incredibly dark childhood. Though Black believes in the concept of superheroes, he also believes that killing the bad guys is the best way to solve the problem.
Black’s abilities have been shown to be incredibly powerful, eventually making him the leader of the Suicide Squad at one point. Furthermore, Black was once nearly able to coerce Superman into killing him. Though Superman was able to resist the temptation, Manchester Black still came incredibly close to tricking the hero into breaking his moral code, earning him his place as one of DC’s best telepaths.
6 Despero
Despero has undergone many changes as a character over the years. However, one constant with him has always been his incredible telepathic abilities. Because of his alien physiology, Despero’s abilities are actually built into his genetic makeup.
As a villain, Despero has posed as an incredible threat to the Justice League, often brainwashing and mind controlling certain members into doing his bidding. Knowing that he can just take over members of the Justice League in this manner makes it easy to see how powerful a telepath he truly is.
5 Maxwell Lord
At the time of his introduction, Maxwell Lord was thought to be one of the good guys, eventually even becoming a member of the Justice League. After the events of Infinite Crisis though, Lord was exposed as the criminal mastermind that he truly was. Lord’s telepathic abilities are so strong that he was able to control and manipulate Superman himself into doing his bidding.
Shortly after, Wonder Woman made the constrovercial decision to murder Maxwell Lord, saving Superman but breaking Justice League code in the process. Regardless of Wonder Woman’s decision, mind controlling Superman is no easy feat, making it easy to see how Lord ranks among DC’s other powerful telepaths.
4 Aquaman
Arthur Curry may be a joke of a character to some, but it doesn’t change how powerful he truly is. While many think that Aquaman can talk to fish, he actually uses telepathy to control them. As a result of his power, Aquaman has controlled many giant sea creatures, some of which have wreak devastating havoc underwater and above land.
Furthermore, Aquaman can effectively control just about all underwater sea life. Considering how the planet is 70% water, Aquaman has a lot of resources at his disposal, easily earning his place on this list.
3 Saturn Girl
Saturn Girl has proven to be one of the most powerful telepaths both in the future as well as in the general DC Universe. Irma Ardeen is a common member of the Legion of Superheroes, a group of young heroes who fight crime in the future, inspired by Superman’s example. As Saturn Girl, Irma has proven herself to be an invaluable member of the team, using her abilities to aid in more ways than one.
Though she has been absent from the comics for a while now, Saturn Girl, along with the rest of the Legion are set to make a reappearance in the comics once again. Hopefully, fans will once again get to witness just how powerful she truly is.
2 Gorilla Grodd
Gorilla Grodd is easily one of The Flash’s biggest adversaries. For years, Grodd has tormented the Scarlet Speedster in incredible ways. Aside from being one of Flash’s biggest villains, Grodd is also one of DC’s most powerful telepaths. Throughout the years, grodd has been crucial to maky mental attacks made against the Justice League.
Recently, Grodd has even taken the minds of some of DC’s fastest heroes, leaving it up to Barry to rescue them. Grodd is not only a great mental opponent, but a physical one as well, making him all the more formidable a foe. His combined mental and physical strength easily make him one of the most dangerous telepaths in all of DC.
1 Martian Manhunter
Thanks to his Martian physiology, Martian Manhunter is likely the most powerful telepath in all of DC Comics. Since he grew up on Mars, J’onn J’onzz communicated telepathically for most of his life. This also gave him an abundance of time to hone his abilities. On top of his telepathy, Martian Manhunter possesses many other abilities, making him very similar to, and arguably more powerful than Superman himself.
Oftentimes, Martian Manhunter provides a telepathic link between the minds of several League members all at once, provided they’re within his extensive range. Manhunter can also alter memories, thoughts, and even leave victims in a vegetative state should he wish. Even aside from his telepathy, Martian Manhunter is easily one of the most powerful characters in all of DC, period.
