Description

Textile artist Jane Sauer says, “I love the sense of building, knot by knot and row by row. I think of the rows of knots as lines wrapping around a form, giving it movement, weight, and direction. I love making order from the chaos of hundreds of threads and thousands of knots.” On the multiple components to her sculpture, she says, “The empty space between each piece is as important as the positive space. I want the whole to be stronger than each part. I select shapes which express circumstances, tensions, contradictions, and the interplay of relationships in life.”
Five fiber sculptures textured with bronze powder consist of dark, tapered forms. Muted purple, blue, and green threads spiral upward, creating ribbed surfaces. A small arch sits beside a dome-based spire. A tall tower rises with a bulbous ring, followed by a bell-shaped spire crowned with tangled filaments. A final tapered tower features a similar flange. Delicate wire-like fibers sprout from each summit against a gray field.
