Jigsaw is a wickedly fun villain, if you can put aside the implausibility of a guy who likes to saunter away from his deathbed to kidnap younger, stronger people and devise medieval torture chambers.

The contest is close, but Saw II is just barely a better B flick than "Saw."

My favorite! I love the atmosphere of this film and the filters that were used in it... Not to mention the deaths that are uncomfortable to watch.

Basically, this is a really good movie until the last part, where director and co-writer Darren Lynn Bousman ruins so much so fast that you'll wonder if his actions are deliberate -- or if the studio interfered.

There are some surprises to be had amid the cruelty (inflicted by both Jigsaw and his test subjects), but this time around the ordeal is less grueling than simply distasteful.

The explanation for all this mayhem eludes me, and even a lame last-minute twist isn't enough to cover the fact that Jigsaw ain't as clever as the movie thinks he is.

Don't look for logic here. But if gore is your game, a motherlode awaits.

Comes to life only when it reprises elements from the original movie.

I love this movie the plot and the traps are so original the creators gave horror movies hope. I thought this was going to be the worst horror movie but its actually the best

A step down from the first one, but still enjoyable and gross. The ensemble trapped in the house in this film is nowhere near as interesting as Lawrence and Adam from the original, but I still bought them as real people. They did dumb things, sure, but it made sense within the confines of the situation they found themselves in. Not sure I would be thinking clearly when trapped in a death house with sadists and coughing up blood until I die a violent death. Silly of the movie to identify its nerve agent as sarin via the historical reference to the mid 1990s subway terror attacks in Japan, when that chemical is deadly in minutes and the one in the film has a two hour time limit. Could have just left it unnamed and I'd have bought it. A lot of the police activity in this movie defies common sense in order to align with the plot, which is frustrating... but a lot of police activity in real life also defies common sense! I especially enjoyed how Jigsaw played Donnie Wahlburg like a fiddle. His Hannibal Lecter-esque sense of being able to read people and manipulate them makes him a formidable villain, and Tobin Bell rides the line perfectly of making him both sympathetic and revolting. There's more emphasis on the traps in this one, and they're suitably nasty. Still too many flashes and quick cuts in the editing. Just let the performers do the work they're given! And, a wholly unnecessary and careless shot of self-harm is shown in full. Take care with that one. The twist is a little obvious, but it works well. The "Hello Zepp" track is very cool and helps the dread of the twists and traps set it better than it could have. Overall, this was fine, and, if nothing else, shows the series definitely has staying power.
