Lin (Awan) Ostrom is Notable.
Lin (Awan) Ostrom was awarded the Nobel Prize.

Elinor Ostrom was an American political scientist and political economist whose work was awarded the 2009 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, which she shared with Oliver E. Williamson; she was the first woman to win the prize.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said Ostrom's "research brought this topic from the fringe to the forefront of scientific attention...by showing how common resources—forests, fisheries, oil fields or grazing lands—can be managed successfully by the people who use them rather than by governments or private companies". Ostrom's work in this regard challenged conventional wisdom, showing that common resources can be successfully managed without government regulation or privatization.[1]

Elinor has a Wikipedia page. She was a very interesting woman.[2]

Elinor Clair Awan was born on August 7, 1933 in Los Angeles, California in the United States.[3] She was the only daughter of Adrian Awan and Leah Hopkins.

Lin went to Beverly Hills High School and graduated Fidelis in 1951. She was on the debate team and found the experience invaluable when it came to arguing both sides of subject. One of her classmates was Richard Chamberlain. Do you think she enjoyed watching Dr. Kildare?

She really wanted to go to college but her mom didn't think it was a good idea. Lynn was a good swimmer and taught swimming to earn the money for college. She attended UCLA and received a B.A. with honors in political science.

Elinor married UCLA classmate Charles Alfred Scott in 1953.[4] They moved to Massachusetts so Scott could attend Harvard Law School. They later divorced.[2]

Lin and Vincent

Elinor married Vincent A Ostrom in 1963 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States.[5] This began a life-long partnership. The couple never had any children.

Lin went on to write and co-author several books. Governing the Commons can be downloaded or read online at Cambridge University's website. There is also a biography of her and her work available at Amazon called The Uncommon Knowledge of Elinor Ostrom: Essential Lessons for Collective Action which is available via inter-library loan as well. If you look her up on YouTube, you will find several videos there.

Elinor, daughter of Adrian Awan & Leah Hopkins, died (age 78) on 12 June 2012 in Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana, United States.[6]

Sadly Elinor's husband, Vincent, would die 17 days later.
