Steve Fossett was a famous balloonist who was the first person who successfully flew a balloon solo and non-stop around the world as well as in a fixed wing aircraft. He also:
-- Made the first solo balloon flight transit of the Pacific Ocean, setting an absolute world distance record of nearly 5,500 miles.
-- As one of 17 Zeppelin captains globally, he set an absolute world speed record for airships (71.5 miles per hour) in October 2004.
-- Held 116 world records or world firsts and set official world records in five sports (airplanes, gliders, sailboats, balloons, and airships).
-- Declared legally dead on February 15, 2008.
