Biography
Melinda French Gates (born Melinda Ann French) is an American philanthropist and a former multimedia product developer and manager at Microsoft.
Melinda has received many honors for her work. She is also the former wife of Microsoft founder and CEO Bill Gates.
Melinda Ann French was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 15, 1964, the daughter of (private, still living), and Elaine Agnes (Amerland) French.
She received her early education in Catholic schools in Dallas, graduating from Ursuline Academy of Dallas in 1982. She went on to Duke University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in computer science and economics in 1986 and an MBA in 1987.
She joined Microsoft as a marketing manager after receiving her MBA.
Melinda married Bill Gates in Hawaii on January 1, 1994. The marriage ended in divorce in 2021. They had three children and they co-founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which they continued to lead together until June 2024, when Melinda left the Foundation.
