Biography

Charles represented the United States in Track & Field in the St. Louis Olympics of 1904.
Charles is an Olympic Gold Medalist

Charles Archibald Hahn was born in 1880 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. He was the son of Charles Hahn and Mamie Howell.[1][2][3]

Archie did not compete in track until he was 19 years old. In 1900, he was recruited by the University of Michigan after they saw him win a race at a county fair.[4] He made the United States Olympic Track and Field team that competed in the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, Missouri. He entered the 60, 100 and 200 meter dash events, and won gold in all three. He returned to the Olympics again in 1906, and won gold in the 100 meter dash. After the Olympics, Archie coached college football, basketball and track at multiple universities.[5] Archie married Sarah Fidelia "Daisy" Abernethy. He most likely met her while coaching football at Pacific University in Oregon, for Sarah was born and raised in Oregon. In 1910, Archie and Sarah were living in the household of Sarah's parents.[6]

Archie died on January 21, 1955 in Charlottesville, Virginia.[7] He was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1959,[8] and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.[9]
