Horror is here at last.

Steam's daily deals are, as a rule, pretty great, but today's is such a no-brainer that even single-celled organisms and Michael Bay fans are parkour-leaping into its open arms. Sure, Mirror's Edge wasn't perfect, but I've yet to play another game where the simple act of moving feels so good. So if you've been holding off because reviews from back in the day said things like "I died a bunch" and "Whoever decided to add guns to this game should be forced to eat one spider ever day for the rest of their lives," now's a fantastic time to choke down a few chunks of unfortunate fat to get to the meat of an excellent experience. Unless we're talking grains of sand on a beach or number of times Hideo Kojima has threatened to quit making Metal Gear forever, 10.2 million is under no circumstances a number to scoff at. Even so, Blizzard's subscription-funded floating sky fortress won't last forever, so it makes sense that the PC behemoth would start lumbering toward greener pastures. And now, Develop's reporting that -- in addition to Titan, Diablo III, Heart of the Swarm, and Blizzard DoTA -- Blizzard is welding "insert coin here" slots onto an as-yet-unannounced F2P project. The mega-dev declined to comment when asked, but that's not a "no." So then, F2P Lost Vikings MMO confirmed. Clearly. Read More »

As is its extremely frequent wont, Indie Royale has taken the wraps off yet another wholesome bundle of indie goodness. Well, OK, "wholesome" may not exactly be the right word, as these games aren't entirely, er, whole. All three games -- Towns, 3079, and Wyv and Keep -- are still in alpha right now, but will be polished to a glowing, completed sheen over the course of the next many months. So basically, you're getting in on the ground floor of some potentially amazing indies. 3079, for instance, describes itself as "an alleged lovechild of Minecraft and Fallout." On that note, I must now depart. All my money won't spend itself, after all. Read More »
This week, a few spoilery details leaked out regarding Mass Effect 3's inevitable day-one DLC, and those details have a few people flipping their proverbial biscuits. BioWare's responded to the accusations that resources were diverted from ME3's development to create DLC, saying that this content was developed by a separate team, but however you feel about that issue I can't help but feel that there's a whole lot of wild overreaction going on here on the story angle. I'd encourage all y'all to relax a little and at the very least wait until we know more before raging against EA and BioWare. Here's why. Read More »
Yesterday we were treated to a brand-new trailer full of catchphrases, gameplay, wub-wub, and a release date for Borderlands 2. Today, IGN has an exclusive deep dive into the reimagined Siren class, one of a handful of returning classes from the original Bordlerands, but with new functionality. Read More »
Speaking of military shooters, EA's announced the existence of the next Medal of Honor game. No surprises here, since the first game in the rebooted franchise reportedly sold pretty well in 2010 despite tepid reviews. According to OXM (via Game Informer, via IGN), it's subtitled Warfighter -- presumably because you fight wars in it -- and developed by the same crew at EA's Danger Close studio that built the single-player campaign in the first one. There's no word on whether DICE will be directly involved this time (the Battlefield 3 developer created the multiplayer portion of Medal of Honor), but it's definitely contributing the fancy Frostbite 2.0 engine to the project. Arma 3 will be a little late to your ultra-realistic military shooter party. Project Lead Daniel Musil cites extra bug-squashing and polish (hooray!) as reasons for the delay of unspecified length (boo!) - I'd guess it'll be 2013 before the full thing comes out. But on the bright side, we won't have to wait that long to mess around with it: Musil says that you'll get your chance with a playable "Community Alpha" version that'll hit soon after E3 (in early June). Remember back in 2009 when Somali pirates nabbed a U.S. cargo ship captain and subsequently ended up with holes in their skulls? Ubisoft says players will be tasked with pulling off similar spec ops missions in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, and in the first trailer in the Believe in Ghosts series, we get an example of one such mission in action. Re-Logic's 2D Minecraftvania hit Terraria's had quite the ride over the past year -- culminating in a free 1.1 update that was practically an expansion pack -- but it looks like there's finally a light at the end of the development tunnel. In a heartfelt forum post, creator Andrew "Redigit" Spinks announced his plans for the future. Unfortunately, as of now, Terraria doesn't appear to be among them. Read More »
Looks like you won't have to wait very long for Mass Effect 3's first injection of DLC -- or at all, for that matter. The massively anticipated tale of love, loss, and sunflower vengeance will come garnished with extra gifts on day one in the form of some pretty meaty DLC. Providing further details necessitates a journey deep into spoiler territory, however, so venture into this post's mysterious southern reaches for more. Read More »
