Maison des illustres

Created in 2011, the "Maisons des Illustres" label identifies places whose purpose is to preserve and transmit the memory of women and men who have distinguished themselves in the political, social and cultural history of France. The label is awarded by the Ministry of Culture for a renewable period of 5 years. It represents an official recognition of the heritage interest of the House and gives rise to various benefits. The network includes more than 250 houses.

Logo EPS HISTORIC SITES

EPS Historic Sites

The European Physical Society (EPS) was founded in Switzerland in 1968 with the aim of facilitating European scientific collaboration. In 2011 EPS decided to launch its "EPS Historic Sites" label to mark a site that is important for the development and history of physics. About 70 sites in 24 countries have this label.

IEEE Historic Milestone

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is an international organization established in 1884 to promote knowledge in the field of electrical, including electronic engineering, information technologies, and telecommunications. In 2023, IEEE unveiled a plaque to celebrate Ampère's discovery of electrodynamics and his advancements in understanding magnetism.

The Electricity Museum recounts the scientific and industrial development of electricity through experiments in operation on numerous machines and instruments.

Born in Lyon in 1775, André-Marie AMPÈRE spent his childhood and adolescence in Poleymieux-au-Mont-d'Or.

The société des amis d'Ampère (SAAMA) was founded on June 12, 1930 on the initiative of Paul Janet of the Academy of Sciences, director of the Graduate School of Electricity.

The society was recognized as being of public utility by decree of April 4, 1936. Its head office is located in Poleymieux.

Its purpose is to perpetuate the memory of André-Marie Ampère by all means it deems appropriate.
The means of action of the Association are, in particular, the creation and maintenance of an electricity museum open to the public, the organization of conferences, colloquia and study days, the writing of a bulletin.

On December 18, 2018, SAAMA received the Medal of Honor from the Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Lyon.
