    Summary

    Description
English: Malayalam Aksharamala (Alphabet Chart) in Noto Serif font (Regular)
    This chart is divided into:

    Malayalam archaic numerals (0-9) - ൦ , ൧ , ൨ , ൩ , ൪ , ൫ , ൬ , ൭ , ൮ , ൯, and fraction signs - ൰ , ൱ , ൲, ൳, ൴ , ൵ , ൶ , ൷ , ൸ , ൘ , ൙ , ൚ , ൛ , ൜ , ൝ , ൞ , are not included in this chart because they fell into disuse in the 20th century. However, they are still used (although sparingly) in culturally significant situations and documents.
ഩ and ഺ are archaic letters not used in modern Malayalam.
ൠ , ഌ , ൡ are Sanskrit origin vocalics which are not used in the Malayalam language.
Malayalam archaic finals - ൔ , ൕ , ൖ , were removed from the modern script, hence not included.
Note 1: Malayalam is a direct descendent of the Grantha script and is notable for its elaborate cursive looped characters. The Tulu (Tigalari) script is a sister script of Malayalam, with high visual similarity between them.
Note 2: The chandrakala, ◌് , functions differently in Malayalam and Tulu scripts compared to other Indic scripts. They can denote a half vowel, a conjuncted cluster sequence, or as a vowel killer.
Note 3: Malayalam and Tulu have distinct glyphs for voiceless final consonants which is unique in Indic scripts. In Malayalam they are called ചില്ലക്ഷരം (cillakṣaram). The ൿ is officially part of the script but is not used as much nowadays.
Note 4: Malayalam has two orthographic styles, the old style with complex ligatures and stacked forms, and the reformed orthography with simplified conjuncts and uniform diacritics. However, both styles are used equally in print and digital media, with the latest revision in 2022 by the Kerala Government favoring a mix of the two styles.
