Hi everyone! I'm Carly and this is a fundraiser for Hayden Williams. Hayden and I have been friends since our pastors introduced us in 2018. They are a disabled wheelchair user and service dog handler, and this GoFundMe is for their future van with a wheelchair ramp conversion.
With their Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), their joints are hypermobile and they risk dislocating wrists, elbows, and shoulders (yeah, that happens regularly) while getting their wheelchair into their current vehicle. A van with a ramp will allow them to roll right in while seated in their wheelchair and they won't have to do any extra lifting or maneuvering! This will keep them much safer (also less rain/snow issues!). They will have the ability to buckle in their service dog and keep him safer too.
Here is how it works.
Hayden is on SSI and their county waiver services will pay for the conversion. The funds for the van come from their own diligent savings, the sale of their current van when it's time, and some existing friends, church, and family donations before this GoFundMe started.
The goal is a newer (not new) reliable van that, with the conversion, will have a remote control to open and close the door and extend the ramp. Some of Hayden's dislocations today are from opening their sliding door, which is not automated. Their makeshift solution is a dowel with a hook on the end, which they use to pull the rear sliding door closed on their current vehicle.
Thank you for your help in sharing the message or any contributions you can make!
