Dori Sakurada (Japanese: 桜田 通, Hepburn: Sakurada Dōri; born December 7, 1991) is a Japanese actor and singer who began his career after being scouted at age 11. He is represented by the agency Amuse.
Career
[change | change source]He is known for playing the lead role of Ryoma Echizen in the third generation cast of The Prince of Tennis musicals, Tenimyu, starting in 2005, making him the youngest actor cast in the role at the time.[1] His major break came in 2008 when he starred as Kotaro Nogami in the successful film Farewell, Saraba Kamen Rider Den-O: Final Countdown.[2] He has since appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, including Let Me Eat Your Pancreas[3] and lead roles in the dramas Scum's Wish[4] and Coffee & Vanilla.[5]
He gained worldwide recognition for his role as the aggressive survivor Suguru Niragi in the Netflix series Alice in Borderland.[6]
Sakurada writes and produces his own music, releasing his first EP, Sakura da Festa Best, in 2019.[7] He performs live at a yearly fan event, Sakura da Festa, and completed his first Zepp tour in 2016.[8]
Personal Life
[change | change source]Sakurada once took a six-month hiatus to study in London,[9] which he credits with renewing his passion for acting and making the career choice his own. He is close friends with fellow actors Kento Yamazaki, Takeru Satoh, and Ryunosuke Kamiki.
