Job recommendations based on your preferences and profile

Last updated: 1 month ago

The Jobs tab shows job recommendations based on different types of information, helping you understand why a job is shown to you and how it relates to your interests and experience.

You may see recommendations from one or more of the following categories:

  • Jobs based on preferences that you add
  • Jobs that match your profile (members with basic (free) accounts)
  • Jobs where you’d be a top applicant (Premium subscribers)

Jobs based on your preferences

Jobs based on your preferences reflect information you share with LinkedIn in Open to Work, such as:

  • Job titles
  • Locations
  • Location types (remote, hybrid, or on‑site)
  • Employment types

You can add or update these preferences at any time from the Jobs tab. If you haven’t added preferences yet, you may be prompted to do so. You can also update your preferences by clicking Preferences > Open to work. When you make changes, recommendations in this section refresh immediately.

Your job preferences are visible only to you by default and are used to personalize the jobs you see. If you choose to share that you're Open to Work with recruiters or the LinkedIn community, your location and location type (remote, hybrid, or on-site) preferences will be visible to others. All other preferences remain private.

Jobs that match your profile or where you’d be a top applicant

Jobs that match your profile are recommendations based on information from your LinkedIn profile, such as your headline, about section, experience and education, as well as your location preferences. LinkedIn identifies job opportunities where the qualifications needed may match these details. If you are a LinkedIn Premium subscriber, you will instead have access to jobs where you'd be a top applicant. These recommendations go a step further by not only factoring in your profile information and the job posting criteria, but also the likelihood that a recruiter will respond based on previous recruiter feedback for similar jobs. To optimize your job recommendations, make sure to keep your profile up to date, including your headline, about, experience, and education sections.

In addition to the Jobs tab, you may also receive these job recommendations by email or through in-app notifications. You can create job alerts for specific searches to get notified when new matching jobs are posted.
