Finland's Immigration Service (Migri) is considering revoking the residence permit of a man who was stabbed in a racist attack in Oulu last summer.
Rakibul Hasan Ridoy, a Bangladeshi national, was attacked in the Valkea shopping centre in 2024 and has since been unable to work due to psychological trauma.
Migri has now asked the man for clarification on his situation and says his work-based permit could be cancelled, with possible deportation to follow.
"If your residence permit is cancelled while you are in Finland, you may be deported. You could also face a ban on entering the country," stated the Migri letter seen by Yle.
Officials stressed, however, that the letter Ridoy received is part of the process to assess individual circumstances and does not automatically mean deportation.
“I feel completely helpless now," he told Yle.
A 15-year-old boy with a history of mental health problems stabbed Ridoy several times from behind in a surprise attack. Before the act, the boy had said he wanted to kill a dark-skinned person.
