Stablecoins in Treasury
Learn what you can do with a stablecoin balance in your financial account.
Your financial account can hold a stablecoin balance alongside your fiat balances. A stablecoin balance holds US dollar-backed USDC and supports funding and money movement, including in markets where fiat Treasury isn’t available. With a stablecoin balance, you can receive, store, convert, and send funds.
Stablecoin balances are in public preview in the United States and in private preview in the other countries where they’re available. Individual stablecoin capabilities are at different release phases, so check the phase of each one before you build on it. See Availability.
How funds move
Stablecoin funds enter over a supported asset and network, are held as USDC in your financial account, and leave as either a supported stablecoin asset or a fiat currency, depending on where you send them:
Stripe converts your USDC when the destination is a fiat balance or bank account: to a fiat balance when you convert funds, and to the local currency when you pay out to a bank account. Sending to a crypto wallet doesn’t involve conversion to fiat.
Key terms
Stablecoin documentation uses these terms consistently:
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fiat balance | A balance in a government-issued currency, such as USD, EUR, or GBP. See Store funds. |
| Stablecoin balance | A balance held in a USD-pegged stablecoin instead of in fiat currency. USDC is the only asset you can hold as a balance. See Stablecoin balances. |
| Stablecoin asset | The specific stablecoin used for funding or payout. Your balance holds USDC. Transfers use USDC on supported networks and USDC.e on Tempo. |
| Blockchain network | The network that moves a stablecoin asset, such as Ethereum, Solana, or Tempo. Stripe supports specific networks, and the asset depends on the network. See Stablecoin assets and networks. |
| Crypto wallet | An external wallet that you or your recipient controls. You add funds from a wallet, and you can send funds to one. |
| Custodian | The entity that holds your stablecoin balance. See Custody of stablecoin balances. |
Three things vary independently, so check each one separately:
- The capability, such as holding a balance or paying out to a bank account. Each has its own release phase.
- The country, which differs by capability. Where you can hold a balance isn’t the same list as where you can pay out.
- The asset and network, which applies when funds move over a blockchain network.

Availability
This section covers where a business can onboard with Stripe and get a financial account with a stablecoin balance. Where you can send a stablecoin balance is separate, and it differs by destination:
United States
In the United States, stablecoin balances are in public preview.
Other eligible countries Private preview
Outside the United States, stablecoin balances are in private preview in the eligible business countries below. Eligibility also depends on where your business representative is located. For the currencies you can add and hold in each case, see Currency support. To hold, fund, and send a stablecoin balance, see Access.
For the release phase of each Treasury feature by country, see Treasury availability.
Access
Use the form below if your business is in an eligible country outside the United States, where stablecoin balances are in private preview. The form covers holding, funding, and sending a stablecoin balance. It doesn’t cover converting between a stablecoin balance and a fiat balance. Access to stablecoin-backed cards is specific to the country your business is in, and Stripe grants it by invitation.
