Klaus K. Klostermaier

Klaus Konrad Klostermaier (Monaco di Baviera, 14 giugno 1933 – 26 febbraio 2024) è stato un indologo, storico delle religioni e studioso dell'induismo canadese di origine tedesca.

Biografia

Klostermaier nacque e crebbe in Germania. Nel 1970 si trasferì in Canada, dove iniziò a lavorare al Dipartimento di religione dell'Università di Manitoba. Per diversi anni fu il più giovane professore ordinario dell'ateneo a insegnare le religioni del mondo, l'induismo e la scienza delle religioni. Venne promosso a capo del suo dipartimento e contribuì a fondare al suo interno il Centro di studi asiatici.

Ha pubblicato innumerevoli articoli e opere. Tra i vari riconoscimenti assegnatili si menzionano il Rh Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Humanities del 1975, il Graduate Students’ Association Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching del 1981 e il John M. Templeton Award for graduate courses in Religion & Science nel 1995. Nel 1997 divenne membro della Royal Society of Canada.
