Features

NNGS has many features, Rengo (Pair Go), Teaching facilities and Ladder games just to name a few. You can watch a professional game with GoBot, our Go cinema that replays famous games of your choice. Just take your pick from the database of available games. There is also an extensive selection of Go problems online that you can view.

Getting Started

Take a look at our NNGS players handbook for a complete listing of possibilities and commands. If you are new to playing go on the internet and would like to know how to get started and where to get software from read our 'Newbie' guide.

It is best to use a "client" to connect to NNGS. A client is a program that provides a nicer user interface than a plain telnet connection. For example a client will display games graphically rather than with plain text drawings and will provide buttons or menus for many of the commands. If you need a client you can download one from this FTP site, or if your browser supports Java, you can try one of these clients. If you use WinIGC, here is a tutorial to help you!

Ratings Graphs

In mid-1998 NNGS switched to a new ratings system. Click here to see the ratings FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions list). Our ratings system is updated once per hour, and you can can also keep track of NNGS members' performance by looking at their personalized graphs (updated once every 24 hours) if you enter the name of the player here:

You can also also see a ratings and anchoring statistics graph.

The old rating system finally broke down (for unknown reasons) and was turned off in late 1999, but Q&A and graphs are still available here.

See you on NNGS!
