YWP hosted the 2012 Poetry Out Loud Central Region Competition on March 10. India Parsons of Westview High School in Avondale, is the first place runner-up in the 2012 Arizona Poetry Out Loud State Competition.

Young Writers Program has once again been selected as the Central Region Coordinator for Arizona's Poetry Out Loud program for 2013.  

The Central Region finals will be held on Saturday, March 2 at the Memorial Union at ASU's Main Tempe Campus.

Young Writers Program and Arizona Commission on the Arts hosted the 2012 Poetry Out Loud Central Region Finals on March 10, 2012 at the Memorial Union on Arizona State University's Tempe Campus. .

Congratulations to the three winners of the Central Region Semifinals competition: John DiMino from Brophy College Preparatory; India Parsons from Westview High School; and Travis Marino from Freedom Christian Academy. 

The state competition was held on March 29 in Phoenix. Congratulations to Central Region semifinalist India Parsons who garnered the first place runner-up spot. Joshua Furtado of Tucson Magnet High School in Tucson won the competition and is Arizona's 2012 POL Champion. Joshua will travel to Washington DC May 13-15, 2012 to compete in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Young Writers Program (YWP) is a 4th–12th grade arts-based, standards-aligned creative writing outreach program with a focus on serving underserved communities. YWP provides the K-12 community with trained teaching artists and other arts-based resources to improve student writing. Through key partnerships, YWP connects talented Master of Fine Arts students from ASU’s Creative Writing Program and select distinguished visiting writers from The Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing with Arizona’s k-12 community.
