Jiaotu is the ninth son of the dragon. He enjoys listening to the tunes played by stringed instruments, so his image can often be found on ancient Chinese instruments, especially stringed instruments.
He is also regarded as the ancient guardian with the task of watching over and guarding homes. Therefore, his image is always carved on doors. People believe that Jiaotu has the ability of keeping the people of evil intentions away from entering the house and protecting the family from being harmed.
Office desks sometimes can also be decorated with Jiaotu images as here his task is to prevent theft and evil attempts.
