Why I Joined Cloudflare 🌐🚀 Earlier this month, I officially stepped into my new role as Chief Engineering Officer at Cloudflare. I’m incredibly excited to join this team and help shape the next era of the Internet. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across nearly every layer of the technology stack. From building public and private IP networks in my early career, to helping to create one of the earliest CDNs (shoutout to digisle.net alums), to leading engineering organizations at ServiceNow, Slack, Shopify, and Webflow, I’ve always been drawn to the systems that power how people connect, build, and innovate. Joining Cloudflare feels like coming full circle. I’ve been a Cloudflare customer since its early days, using its CDN, Workers, TLS, and global network to build and scale products at multiple companies. Over the years, I’ve watched the company successfully navigate multiple technology shifts while continuing to expand its reach and impact. Right now, we’re at the beginning of another major transition with AI. When I look at the infrastructure required to power the next generation of inference, platforms, applications, and experiences, it’s clear to me that Cloudflare is uniquely positioned to play a central role. Three things drew me to this opportunity: * The people. I’ve known many Cloudflare employees for years. They are not only exceptionally talented, but deeply committed to the company’s mission and the work they do every day. * The scale. Building infrastructure from the data center floor to modern application stacks that serve hundreds of millions of users is one of the most exciting engineering challenges in the world. We are helping build infrastructure for the planet. * The technology. I’ve always loved understanding how every layer of a system works together. Cloudflare sits at the intersection of networking, systems, security, developer platforms, AI, and the modern web. As Chief Engineering Officer, I’ll be focused on helping scale and support Cloudflare’s world-class engineering organization while working closely with leaders across the company to execute on our ambitious vision. I’m grateful for the warm welcome I’ve already received and excited to get to work alongside such a talented team. Still thinking about the incredible energy from Cloudflare’s Immerse Istanbul last month! On May 14th, the tech community gathered at the Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus for a front-row seat to the future of the internet. It was an intensive, high-value day of breaking down complex connectivity and security challenges—without the usual technobabble. A few big highlights from looking back on the day: - Real-World Insights: Hearing directly from regional leaders at Trendyol, Koç Holding, and Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency during the "Voice of the Customers" panel on why they trust Cloudflare to scale and secure their infrastructure. - The Next Era of Tech: Deep dives into tackling massive DDoS attacks, architecting for data localization, and building the "Fast Path to AI" securely using edge compute. - Community & Connection: Incredible peer-to-peer networking and brainstorming over lunch with fantastic views of the Bosphorus.
