About us
LiteSpeed Technologies was founded in early 2002 by a team of engineers led by George Wang. It started with LiteSpeed Web Server: a high-performance, event-driven web server, built from the ground up, with the goal of improving internet speed and reducing system resources. When we wanted better server capacity, we built the innovative LiteSpeed Cache engine. When we wanted to integrate intelligent caching with popular web applications, we built a series of handy plugins for WordPress, Magento, Joomla, and more. When we wanted fast and accurate cached content on a global scale, we built QUIC.cloud CDN: the world’s first CDN capable of caching dynamic WordPress content at the CDN level. Every time our team has encountered a bottleneck on the quest for a faster internet, we’ve done the work and built a solution. Will there be more bottlenecks and more challenges ahead? OpenLiteSpeed can be as effective as the Enterprise version. The results blew my mind... 🔹 almost the same average response time as LiteSpeed Enterprise 🔹 almost the same throughput 🔹 the fastest TTFB in the whole test 🔹 strong and predictable performance even under load Since our PanelAlpha Engine v1.0 release (our Docker-based hosting environment) now supports LiteSpeed Enterprise, OpenLiteSpeed, Apache, NGINX, and Apache + NGINX. So we decided to benchmark all of them, and Apache, NGINX, and Apache + NGINX were not even close. OpenLiteSpeed may not be as practical as LiteSpeed Enterprise because it gives you full Apache compatibility, full .htaccess support without restart and commercial support. But performance-wise, OpenLiteSpeed still looks like a much better option than Apache. For us, this will be the recommended setup. Especially for the self-use option coming out next week.
Since version 1.0, PanelAlpha Engine supports multiple web server configurations: LiteSpeed Enterprise, OpenLiteSpeed, Nginx, Apache and the default Nginx plus Apache stack. We tested them under the same conditions. Same server, same WordPress installation, same load. The only variable was the web server. Our Founder Konrad Keck prepared the analysis. TL;DR: 🔹 LiteSpeed Enterprise and OpenLiteSpeed outperform the other configurations by a wide margin. 🔹 OpenLiteSpeed in some metrics matches or even exceeds the Enterprise version. 🔹 Caching and Redis improve numbers slightly, but they do not change the performance class. The web server itself is the main factor. On the same machine, LiteSpeed based setups handled up to 5 to 7 times more requests per second than Nginx or Apache. If you run production WordPress environments, this difference matters. With PanelAlpha Engine, you now have full flexibility in choosing the stack that fits your needs.
