However, despite these significant benefits, currently available high-resolution set-ups are typically prohibitively expensive, significantly limiting their user base and accessibility. These limitations can have wider implications, limiting data collection opportunities, and therefore our knowledge, across a wide range of environments. In this article we introduce a low-cost alternative to the currently available instrumentation. This instrument provides hyperspectral datasets capable of resolving spectral variations in mm-scale targets, that cannot typically be resolved with many existing low-cost hyperspectral imaging alternatives. Instrument metrology is provided, and its efficacy is demonstrated within a mineralogy-based environmental monitoring application highlighting it as a valuable addition to the field of low-cost hyperspectral imaging.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s22124652","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,22]],"date-time":"2022-06-22T04:12:01Z","timestamp":1655871121000},"page":"4652","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":88,"title":["High-Resolution Hyperspectral Imaging Using Low-Cost Components: Application within Environmental Monitoring Scenarios"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"22","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3187-9164","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mary B.","family":"Stuart","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Sheffield, Sheffield S1 4DE, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3486-3539","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Matthew","family":"Davies","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Sheffield, Sheffield S1 4DE, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4661-692X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Matthew J.","family":"Hobbs","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Sheffield, Sheffield S1 4DE, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-6028-308X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Tom D.","family":"Pering","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Geography, University of Sheffield, Sheffield S10 2TN, UK"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0234-9981","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Andrew J.
