I wish I had half the confidence that Mark Polish had when he wrote Winona Ryder and Hilary Duff as his potential love interests. Too bad it wasn’t any good.

A disgusting, shameful, problematic experience, and I felt bad for everyone in this that didn’t have Polish in their name, they all felt like victims of a pair of self obsessed creepy little men who should probably be on some kind of watchlist

In this one an author who returns to his hometown to deliver a commencement address to a class of graduating high school students has to deal with his feelings for an old flame as well as the advances of a student who has the hots for him. Despite a low IMDb rating I actually enjoyed watching this movie. The story has been done many times before....but this one has some nice funny supporting performances. Kudos to Chevy Chase (yes Chevy is funny in a movie again), Sean Astin and Josh Holloway as a gay couple, Winona Ryder as the high school crush and Mark Polish in the lead role. Final thought: Maybe I was just in a good mood....but I liked this movie.

Having Hilary duff should automatically make me like a movie cuz I love her so much and then you have Winona Ryder and this should truly be amazing to me but this is so bad right from the beginning it was one of the cringiest movies I’ve ever seen

unbearable. this mark polish mf writes himself as ~the one that got away~
from winona in high school. he's still stuck in his adolescent self-pity of not winning her over. he literally writes a book about it, and then we see winona reading it & feeling gulty. she falls head over heels for him within 15 minutes of the movie starting despite not even remembering his existence at first. he's so boring. and yet, hillary duff, a high schooler 20 years his junior is also relentlessly pursuing him. of course, he doesn't do anything with her because he's ~such a great and decent guy~ (except take her to prom....... man you're pushing 40). and sean astin has always pissed me off so badly. i don't know what it is that makes my blood boil every minute he's on screen.

but...at the end of the day...i am not above sacrificing my dignity & time for winona <3
