Many educators face a difficult reality: increasing student needs paired with limited classroom budgets. In this testimonial, educator and First Book member Kyle T. shares how First Book helps bridge that gap by providing access to books and resources that would have otherwise been out of reach for her students. Every gift, every contribution, helps ensure that budget limitations don’t prevent children from accessing the books and resources they need to thrive. 👉 Support First Book’s mission: https://bit.ly/4wTb8lv #FirstBook #Education #NonprofitImpact #CommunityImpact #Donate

Eliminating barriers. Inspiring young minds.
About us
Education transforms lives. First Book is building a world where every child has access to a quality education. We work to remove barriers to education and level the playing field for kids in need. At the heart of our work are the 600,000+ members of the First Book Network, the largest online community of individual educators, professionals and volunteers dedicated to supporting children living in low-income communities across North America. This Network is the key to creating lasting change. Through our research arm, First Book Research & Insights, we conduct studies that aggregate their voices to identify challenges, needs, and solutions. To address their needs, we provide free and low-cost books, resources and access to leading experts through the First Book Marketplace, which uses aggregated buying power to support their work. Founded in Washington D.C. in 1992 as a nonprofit social enterprise, First Book is dedicated to eliminating barriers to learning and inspiring young minds. Affordability is a critical part of access. Through First Book, educators are able to purchase high-quality books at affordable prices, ensuring more students leave the classroom as confident readers. As educators prepare for a new school year, they face the challenge of engaging reluctant readers. For reluctant readers, access to the right book can make all the difference. When students encounter stories that reflect their interests and experiences, they are more likely to stay engaged and build reading confidence. Through First Book, educators can access a variety of high-quality books that help meet students where they are. As screen time increases over the summer, many parents and educators wonder how they can ensure that time meaningfully supports learning and curiosity. In partnership with Google Play, First Book is helping answer that question by curating a collection of Teacher Approved apps for children ages 12 and under. This work is grounded in direct input from First Book educators through surveys and focus groups conducted by First Book Research & Insights. Educators shared a clear need for safe, high-quality digital resources to help keep students engaged, especially outside of the classroom. In response, this curated collection and companion guide are designed to help families and educators turn everyday screen time into an opportunity to build literacy skills and support continued learning. 👉 Explore the collection and full guide: https://lnkd.in/dW9eaS3W #DigitalLearning #EdTech #SummerLearning #FirstBook #LearningInnovation

Ensuring children have books of their own during the summer months is a simple but powerful way to support learning and set students up for success in the fall. Unfortunately, too many children don’t have their own books at home. Some families can’t afford to buy them or don’t live near a public library. First Book is working hard to change this and we need your support. With your gift, kids can grow their love for reading with books they can call their own. 👉 Make your summer gift today: https://lnkd.in/d4bbi8ET #SummerReading #SummerSlide #FirstBook #Education #DonateNow #Donation

For children in under-resourced communities, summer break often means limited access to reading materials, increasing the risk of falling behind. This phenomenon, known as the “summer slide,” can have lasting impacts on student success. At First Book, we work to ensure kids have books of their own to continue learning beyond the classroom, especially in the summer months. With your support, educators and programs can put high-quality books directly into students’ hands, helping them maintain and build critical reading skills all year long. 🔗 Help stop the summer slide: https://lnkd.in/daJ5hbap #FirstBook #SummerReading #NonprofitImpact #LiteracyMatters #GiveBack
