Don't be a jerk.

If you disagree with someone or their care, be polite and informative. You're not going to change someone's mind by threatening, harassing, or bullying them. We are all for healthy discussions. This also includes comments that are homophobic, racist, sexist, or inflammatory (i.e. trying to incite a fight). Posts that devolve into screaming matches or drama will be locked or possibly deleted.

If you post asking for advice, be willing to listen!

We have plenty of people here with years of experience and well educated mods! We ask that you at least have an open mind if posting for advice.

No posts or comments with any sort of animal abuse, neglect, or injury.

Have a burned snake? Don't post it here! Vet questions? Not the place. This includes animals being put in dangerous situations, comments/posts about animal harm, improper handling, etc. Please report if you see anything breaking this rule. This also includes posts like "XXX Facebook user is abusing their gecko" or "stop this youtube channel". Brigading and calling on a personal army are against Reddit ToS and these posts are removed.

Use the NSFW tag and post flairs!

Injured animal photos ARE NOT ALLOWED! Go to a vet! If you need to show us something NSFW, please tag it. Things like feeding videos, if you must share them. That being said, injured reptiles, dead reptiles, abused reptiles are not allowed to be posted. Did it sound like we repeated ourselves there? It's because you're not listening.

No one can diagnose an animal for you online

If your reptile has serious health problems or injuries, GO TO A VET! We are not qualified professionals and no one can treat your reptile over the internet.

We can't diagnose problems in animals at zoos, or injuries to wild animals. These posts are removed and referred to vet care.

No advertising, buy/sell/trade/rehome or spamming.

There are plenty of places to sell your reptiles or products on the internet. This is not the place. If you're unsure if your post qualifies for this, message the mods first.

No comments on personal appearance.

This is a reptile forum. Comments on personal appearance are not allowed.

Medically significant animals must be handled with proper person protective equipment.

Whining about other subreddits or moderators will result in removal and ban. Use PMs or modmail.

This isn't a place to air your perceived grievances and circle jerk about your ban somewhere. We're removing these posts and the people who comment and participate in them as a rule; this is your warning.

No exaggeration, rage-bait or pot-stirring.

These posts are unfocused and unhelpful. The most common types of post like this are "why are reptile forums so toxic".

For ID requests go elsewhere

Snake ID requests need to be handled in r/whatsthissnake. AnimalID or herpetology for other species.

This is primarily a subreddit for pet enthusiasts, not set up to reply to or monitor ID requests. You will receive low quality answers.

Please provide a picture or description and your location. Do not keep wild animals unless it is legal in your country, or you have a permit.
