We see themes from Rocky III and Rocky IV such as Creed becoming a sports figure and losing his head as well as a revenge flick in the guise the match between Adonis and Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago, who killed Apollo Creed. Everybody was cheering for Viktor rather than Adonis!!!! ;) See more Chris S @Janomi Jun 19 Creed II takes what could have been simple nostalgia and turns it into a surprisingly emotional continuation of the franchise. Bringing back Ivan Drago and introducing his son Viktor could have easily felt like a gimmick, but the film gives both characters tragedy, motivation, and humanity. Their story becomes one of the movie's strongest elements. Michael B. Jordan continues to make Adonis Creed a compelling lead. The fight is about far more than revenge or winning; it's about fatherhood, legacy, anger, and understanding what kind of champion he wants to become. Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, and Dolph Lundgren all add emotional weight, with Lundgren bringing unexpected depth to a character once defined almost entirely by intimidation. Steven Caple Jr. delivers a strong sequel, even if it lacks some of Ryan Coogler's visual creativity and personal style. While more traditional than the first film, the performances and emotional stakes make Creed II a worthy follow-up. What impressed me most was its ability to make me care about characters and storylines I had never paid much attention to before. The film draws heavily from decades of history, turning old rivalries and forgotten baggage into compelling drama. Rocky reconciling with his son and meeting his grandson after surviving cancer, Adonis growing his own family, and even the surprising depth given to Ivan and Viktor Drago all add layers that elevate the story beyond a simple boxing sequel. The nostalgia is plentiful, but it serves the characters rather than overshadowing them. With strong performances and plenty of heart, Creed II delivers an emotional continuation of a franchise that somehow still finds new ways to connect with its audience. Being a little less enthusiastic and even a little bit corny. Ivan Drago ends up being a peculiar villain and his arch entails a little bit of nothing but then again… the fights are unbelievable.
