About
SatMatch is a satellite prediction tool used to find times when a satellite is visible from two locations.
It is geared toward Amateur Radio operators that want to determine what times are best to communicate between
two specified locations using an amateur radio satellite. More information about amateur radio satellites
can be found on the Amsat page.
Usage
Enter one or more amateur radio satellites (separated by commas) in the Satellite box, and enter a value in at
least the Grid1 box to find passes of those satellites over that grid. The location can either be a maidenhead
grid squre (up to 8 digits) or a decimal degrees lat,lon pair. Optionally, enter a second location in the Grid2
box to find satellite passes that cover both areas.
✦ New Features
-
Pass detail maps —
expand a lazy ground-track map under pass plots; hover syncs between the
polar SVG and map, and footprints follow the selected satellite position
-
Interactive polar plots —
hover or tap a pass SVG to see time, azimuth, and elevation at that point;
live passes show a moving position dot and real-time AZ/EL readout
-
Live pass lists —
countdowns on every pass row update in real time; active passes show a NOW badge
with remaining duration; stale rows drop automatically on current searches
-
Local timezone display —
show pass times in your local or selected timezone; open the settings icon in
the top-right header to turn it on
-
All-satellite search —
/obs1/<grid> searches every satellite for the next hour from your grid
-
Active satellite filtering —
limit all-satellite searches to satellites with recent AMSAT status reports;
find it on the all-satellite search form
-
Apogee Passes —
find overlapping passes at satellite apogee, best geometry for high-orbit satellites
-
Apogee Footprint Map —
visualize where a satellite's apogee footprint covers over time
-
Sunlight/Eclipse indicators —
see whether a pass is in sunlight or Earth's shadow; enable via the
Compute sunlight/eclipse indicators checkbox in search options
