Pre-alpha Playtest

[edit]

There were a pre-alpha playtests for Marvel Rivals in 2023. However, playtesters were required to sign an NDA for the content of the game that may still be active. Due to this, there are no official sources. As a pre-alpha playtester, I also do not have any references besides my own experience. Should we include the pre-alpha playtests in the game at all in the development section? Lokiiru (talk) 08:43, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Playable Characters

[edit]

Should the alternate skins be listed at all as playable characters? They only provide visual changes, no auditory or game play changes occur. I'm referring to characters such as "Mister Knight," "Scarlet Spider," "Anti-Venom," and "Bashenga" being listed under Moon Knight, Spider-Man, Venom, and Black Panther respectively. Hero Bans

[edit]

Hero bans are for diamond and above they let you ban a hero for the round but they arent mentioned once in the page. Romeposter (talk) 17:42, 31 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Which aspect of gameplay does that fall under and why does it need to be included? You could draft a sentence here in talk & say where you think it should be added if you want feedback or WP:BEBOLD and just add it directly to the article. Either way, make sure to include a reliable secondary source (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Sources for more on sources). Sariel Xilo (talk) 18:26, 31 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Excessive Detail

[edit]

Hello all. I just wanted to raise a concern that there is potentially WP:TOOMUCH detail in the gameplay section. For example, is it necessary to explain in exhaustive detail how each multiplayer game mode works, the different matchmaking queues, and then also explain and list every single individual character, their roles, and the multiplayer maps? The answer to this question may very well be "yes", I simply wanted to start a discussion about this, as it seems to be entering excessive detail territory. Thanks. 136.49.20.107 (talk) 00:29, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

I don't really have an opinion about this myself but it is clear that at least three different editors disagree enough to revert your edits and restore the previous content. I recommend not to attempt any more major removals without discussion here. Maybe consider tightening up the text instead of removing whole sections? --DanielRigal (talk) 14:32, 12 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, its actually reasonable to discuss these modes since they are covered in reliable sources (not just game guides), indicating that independent sources consider this content noteworthy and thus reasonable for us to include. The descriptions may be a bit wordy, but they are not excessively detailed. The problems would arise if we were heavily relying on primary sources to source that. Writers

[edit]

Why were Donger Gan and Marc Sumerak removed from the Writer(s) field? Both were sourced and the field explicitly allows for plural listings. Malachi108 (talk) 21:57, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Jinghua Duan is a lead writer (specifically, the lead narrative designer), which merits inclusion per the instructions of the template. Donger Gan and Marc Sumerak are not credited as a lead writers. Nor does every member of the development team need to be included in the infobox, just because they are mentioned somewhere in passing. And some random Twitter post about having worked on the game is not a reliable reference. --Cold Season (talk) 20:45, 4 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Should we create a {|class="wikitable" for game modes?

[edit]

Since side game modes (i.e. Jeff Winter-Splash Festival, Clone Rumble, Marvel Zombies, etc.) in a consistently updated wiki table. These will become more numerous and important with the current PvE mode and the year long "Path to Doomsday". Even prior modes are in different predicaments of wheather they are available for limited time or if they are avaliable in custom match. Man Witout A Plan (talk) 23:25, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

No, though when they were included can be mentioned in the Season table. We might have a better idea when they start bringing back events or have special timing like with Overwatch. Masem (t) 03:50, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Reasons for split

[edit]

- Would match precedent of Characters of the Overwatch franchise

- Marvel Rivals has nearly the same amount of characters as Overwatch

- The current table format doesn't allow for any further information on these characters specifically

- "Franchise" is questionable, but since Marvel Rivals has had their own comics and such I think it counts ModlordD (talk) 12:54, 18 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose - I think this is too soon (WP:HASTE). Looking at the WP:SIZERULE, the article's "readable prose size" is 2783 words which is well under the 8000 word threshold. We also don't need a lot of details about the characters (WP:NOTGUIDE); I would support updating the character links to respective "In other media" sections and expansion of Marvel Rivals entries at those main character articles. As an aside, "List of X characters" (ie. List of Marvel Rivals characters) would be the standard article title format since franchise doesn't really make sense for this game. Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:29, 18 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
There is certainly more information that could be given. Three characters from this game have received their own articles: Luna Snow, Emma Frost, and Invisible Woman; two of which are GA. The current format of simply a table couldn't provide the same level of information that these separate articles were able to. I'm not sure what the standard practice is here, but I imagine having an article (as you said like "List of Marvel Rivals characters") would be better than having Marvel Rivals sections for every article. ModlordD (talk) 17:02, 18 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - I think it's fine as is. The difference between the Overwatch article and Rivals is that Overwatch's characters are all original creations that needed that article to explain them, while Rivals uses pre-existing characters that already have their own articles that do it for them. The Emma and Sue articles already make no sense and could easily fit into a footnote of the reception section since they almost entirely consist of journalists' reactions to their designs, so I don't think there's a reason to have another unnecessary Rivals-adjacent article. CyberAlexMM (talk) 15:33, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
unlike overwatch, these are all established characters with their own pages, and with a few special cases of the game's specific character getting its own version. For overwatch we are generally dealing with novel characters, and even there, there's usually good coverage of each character. I feel this doesnt work as well for marvel rivals because of the established characters. Masem (t) 16:09, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
