Need Help with this

[edit]

Hey @Abecedare, how have you been. If you remember in the past we had a brief discussion of what journals might be WP:RS when we are dealing with articles concerning India. I have seen a lot of AfDs where predatory journals are peddled... So I thought of writing an essay on how to spot predatory journals. If you are interested in helping out with this, do let me know :) Will appreciate it a lot Thanks and best wishes! Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 02:02, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Destubathon of the Americas

[edit]

You are invited to participate in the Destubathon of the Americas, a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to £2000 ($2680) in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:37, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Vandal

[edit]

Hello Abecedare! The account named Minakshi Pillai, known for making unsourced and non-constructive edits, is vandalizing an article edited by prominent editors. Please see the differences from Minakshi Pillai’s edits here (1) (2) (3). He has already been warned for vandalizing the Vanniyar article, and now he is vandalizing the Vellalar article and related articles as well. He has not attempted to reach any consensus. His edits are not even constructive. He is modifying content without even checking what the sources say. He is clearly not here to build an encyclopedia.

He used Karashima's old source, which contains translation mistakes, and cherry-picked his confusing terms as facts to add inappropriate content to the article. His recent books imply:

From Ancient to Medieval: South Indian Society in Transition (2009), page no. 12 4 "Ex-hill tribes who had entered the Chola army also joined agrarian society by forming new jatis and gaining land for themselves. In contrast, Brahmanas and Vellalas, who had formed the landowning privileged class in traditional society, began to decline. In conjunction with this social upheaval, new religious ideas and beliefs were born. I have tried to clarify these changes that occurred during the transition from ancient to medieval society."

From A Concise History of South India (2014), page no. 137 5 "In the early period, Brahmanas and Vellalas comprised the two important landholding communities, though the Brahmanas were numerically weaker."

These are majorly accepted facts and views among modern academic sources. I request that you warn the account to reach a consensus before making controversial edits. ~2026-25395-88 (talk) 16:05, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
