Thanks. Yes, I had followed that link and read the material. I didn't mention it because although I'll use it in making the changes, it didn't really discuss my question.

Now I'm looking at the question of the USGS coordinates are presumably NAD27 (haven't verified this yet but most topo quads are NAD27) but "coord" wants WGS84, no option. So I need a batch conversion facility. Nyergh.

Well, following up myself, I disovered that the BGN database info is all NAD83 (converted in 2005), so I don't need to convert it.Paleolith (talk) 05:14, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Tom Toles

Thanks. I read more carefully and deleted my comment. It was an ironic coincidence: I saw his Oct 31 cartoon (on gocomics there was nothing about it being his last), wondered how old he is, and looked him up. Hence my confusion ... ;-) Paleolith (talk) 23:23, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
