Discussion about WikiProject banner templates
[edit]For WikiProjects that participate in rating articles, the banners for talk pages usually say something like:
- "This article has been rated as Low-importance on the importance scale."
There is a proposal to change the default wording on the banners to say "priority" instead of "importance". This could affect the template for your group. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council#Proposal to update wording on WikiProject banners. Government debt as a percentage of GDP
[edit]I've noticed that it's common on many articles to express a country's debt as a percentage of its GDP. For example, in National debt of the United States, "debt held by the public was estimated at 96.19% of GDP.
" This can be misleading, as percents are usually used for fractions where 100% is the maximum or has special significance. Since GDP is an annual quantity, the debt-to-GDP ratio is actually a duration, not a fraction. So it seems to me that it would be better to say "0.9619 years of GDP
" or "0.9619 times GDP
". What would you all think about a project-wide conversion from percentage notation to one of those?
I know the percentage notation is common in economic literature, but since Wikipedia is aimed at a general audience, I think it would be valuable to adjust how we write this number to help clarify its meaning to the noneconomist. And here's at least one source that calls out the problem with the percentage notation: Sheard, Pault. "Beware The Government Debt-To_GDP Ratio". NDTV Profit. Retrieved 2026-02-11. Hello, |
What a mess. This is a poorly sourced BLP and autobiographical piece. It's been proposed for deletion, and vandalized repeatedly by irate students, so AfD is the only way out. Bearian (talk) 13:12, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

article request
[edit]Can we get an article "Revealed willingness to pay" (RWTP)? We have willingness to pay but that's a different concept. Hmm I see we have price discovery which is about what I wanted. Its purpuse is to find out the RWTP of the asset. RWTP has a bunch of search hits in the encyclopedia and seemed worthy of an article, but maybe it's enough for now if someone could redirect it to price discovery. Thanks. ~2026-42295-00 (talk) 00:33, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
