About PisoliteHide

Name:
The name derives from the Hellenic word for pea.
A pisolite is a sedimentary rock made of pisoids (= pisoliths), which are approximately spherical, concretionary grains, typically of calcium carbonate, but may be of iron oxides, clays, apatite, etc. They resemble ooids, but are between 2-10 mm in diameter, while ooids are <2 mm.

Bauxites, ironstones and limestones often have a pisolitic structure.
