Gangs ramp up attacks in Haiti, fueling concerns over security of upcoming elections 

Renewed clashes, kidnappings and killings in Port-au-Prince and other regions continue to force residents from their homes and raise questions about whether a vote can be held in December

The latest major violence occurred on Aug. 9, when members of the “Taliban” gang from the Canaan area attacked Arcahaie—a municipality about 30 miles north of the Haitian capital—killing at least one truck driver, according to local reports.

Not Yet Gone, But Forgotten: The Last Survivors of the 1937 Parsley Massacre Speak

In late September and early October 1937, Dominican dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo ordered the massacre of anyone believed to be Haitian, resulting in the brutal deaths of at least 20,000 people. Now, 87 years later, the last survivors of the massacre, living in the Northeastern department shared their harrowing stories and continued hopes for restitution before they pass on.
