#isthisatrend #orjustvibes Google's Play Store started opening up to rival app stores in the US on Wednesday, under a court order stemming from the case Google lost to Epic Games before a San Francisco jury. Then, on Thursday, the European Commission fined Google about $1 billion, partly over the same conduct. "Google lost. And I think that perception will affect juries going forward." - Tejas N. Narechania.

It's exciting to see the KQED app featured as a Flutter Dev Showcase! This showcase reflects what can happen when a mission-driven organization and great partners come together. Working alongside the talented teams at KQED and Uptech Studio, we've built a platform that helps people discover trusted local journalism, live radio, podcasts, video, and community stories—all in one place. For me, one of the biggest takeaways from this project is that modernizing an app isn't just about adopting new technology. It's about creating a strong foundation that enables teams to deliver value to users faster, iterate more quickly, and continue experimenting with new ways to connect audiences with trusted public media. We are so proud to share that KQED has won the UserTesting Illumi Award for Mission Impact — and this recognition means everything to our team and our community. We set out to rebuild our app with Uptech Studio from the ground up — keeping our Bay Area community at the center of every decision. We used continuous research with real community members at every stage, from early concept through post-launch. And what we heard shaped everything. People weren't looking for a content library. They wanted a daily local companion. After launch: → App Store ratings jumped to 4.9 stars → Monthly installs increased 66% → Repeat usage grew to 88% of monthly users → Monthly live radio stream listens increased over 600% Listening to our community didn't just improve our app. It helped us fulfill our reason for existing. Thank you, Bay Area. 💙 Photo credit 📷 Mike Nakamura Photography

Meet Amos Goldbaum, a San Francisco muralist and artist known for his distinct line work. His work features detailed cityscapes of San Francisco and can be found in restaurants, parks and walls across the city. For our June pledge drive, we partnered with Amos to create a design that reflects the ways in which KQED connects the Bay Area. His final piece incorporates KQED radio into a classic Victorian house while combining other elements such as plants native to California and recognizable Bay Area landmarks. Grab this design on a limited-edition tote bag or t-shirt at donate.kqed.org/radiodrive.
With thought-provoking conversations, shows and concerts that celebrate the Bay's vibrant music scene, interactive social nights, and The Edible Atlas food fest, there's something for everyone in this season's lineup. We're bringing journalism to life onstage throughout the Bay Area, so make sure to add KQED Live events to your summer plans! Head to kqed.org/live for more.
