While Wikipedia's written policies and guidelines should be taken seriously, they can be misused.
Do not follow an overly strict interpretation of the letter of policy without consideration for the principles of policies.
If the rules truly prevent you from improving the encyclopedia, ignore them.
Disagreements are resolved through consensus-based discussion, not by tightly sticking to rules and procedures.
Furthermore, policies and guidelines themselves may be changed to reflect evolving consensus. (WP:NOT)

Jumping the gun - deleting pages immediately after notification?

Hi, Liz. Wishing you improved health. Suggestion. You deleted page Draft:Haro v. Kaiser Foundation Hospitals 5 minutes after DreamRimmer bot II notified me : "If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission, and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code." The timing is ... less than ideal. Makes sense to give editors a chance to see the messages DreamRimmer bot II leaves before deleting. Especially as I had improved the article in the 6 months since the previous warning. Just a suggestion for the future. Make sense? RememberOrwell (talk) 20:35, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Isn’t the main feature of a PROD that there’s no discussion? Indeed AIUI the raising of any objection would have killed the process. It can also be undone at WP:RFU without need for discussion (unless the article is speedy-deletably in violation of policy, I suppose).—Odysseus1479 20:19, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

There were never any citations in the deleted article other than the five shown in the talk page discussion Renerpho linked to. The only citation for the first three years of the page's existence was the Encyclopedia Mythica one, and the article's factual accuracy had been disputed since November 2005; in particular, the first objection, by an IP, stated in part that "the Zulu language does not have an 'R'", which fwiw Zulu language#Consonants confirms. —Cryptic 20:35, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Actually, both that section and the following 'orthography' sections do show an /r/, though only in foreign loans and 'expressive' words. We don't know that this isn't an 'expressive' word, though I'm not finding it in Doke's dictionary. There's also the question of the supposed alt name Nomkhubulwane, which is easier to confirm as a goddess, including in modern cultural revival; see the several quotes going back to the 19th century in Bryceson et al. (2007: 172 ff) Identity and Networks: Fashioning Gender and Ethnicity Across Cultures. Perhaps the page could be moved there with a citation-needed tag on the Mbaba alias. — kwami (talk) 00:54, 6 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello, Liz. Please undelete and move User:Isaac J Morris\Draft BaBa 2Switt to User:Isaac J Morris/BaBa 2Switt.

Details: Isaac J Morris is a mentee of mine who registered yesterday (18:31, 4 January 2026). He had time to create a draft article on his user page, and it was on my list to discuss with Isaac about moving it either to Draft space or to a user subpage. Before I could get to it, Escape Orbit moved Isaac's user page to User:Isaac J Morris\Draft BaBa 2Switt (diff), thus creating a new user page (note the backslash), instead of a subpage of Isaac's userpage. At that point, you noticed the userpage of a nonexistent user, and deleted it per U2 (log).

To remedy this unfortunate sequence of actions, could you please:

1. undelete User:Isaac J Morris\Draft BaBa 2Switt
2. move User:Isaac J Morris\Draft BaBa 2Switt to User:Isaac J Morris/BaBa 2Switt

• Changes to the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy's disclosure rules include broadening the consecutive-blocks exception to cover all admin actions and removing the requirement to revision-delete permissible disclosures once they become unnecessary (instead requiring only their removal). (talk page watcher) I've been staying away from editing that incident myself; it is a current event and current events tend to be unstable on Wikipedia, but the Wikipedia community very consistently eventually rights itself. It's unfortunate that some dedicated interests make it a point to disrupt editing of these sorts of topics, but it will subside, it always does. Observations regarding a relatively new, SME/subject-dedicated user

For the sake of UX and general relations here, have a look in on the interactions that arose, at the last of our most recent series of edits, as posted here. We are not asking for any intervention here, regarding the unmerited, protective reversions—we will, as indicated in the discourse, wait 24-hours, so that a cooler heads might yet prevail. But the observation that rather than archive Talk page content, regular reversion and wholesale page blanking is done, and the fact that a host of policy-compliant edits have met with quick, accusatory, judgmental, and overly harsh (and simply inaccurate) responses—in the reverting edit summaries, and now in Talk—make me concerned for more broadly non-compliant editorial behavior that might be suggested by the ill-tempered responses (and masked by repeated blanking of Talk content). (I will check in again in 24-hours, in particular if there has not been self-reversion of the en mass reversion, such that the repeated WP:VERIFY violations we addressed are returned to the article in question.) Three outline drafts slated for deletion

There are 3 outline drafts that I've slated for deletion by removing them from the outline draft tracker. There's either not enough coverage to develop a full outline, or there's a topic overlap problem. They will no longer be edited by me and will likely be routinely deleted by the draft namespace maintainers eventually.

They are:

 Done Just for anyone who is spending their Saturday reading this user talk page, I restored these drafts upon request even though I didn't delete any of them myself, another admin did. I just seem to be the place where editors come for help. I also should say that we delete around 200 stale drafts every day and I don't think it is realistic to keep my eye open for one or two in particular to act differently on. I'm also not the only admin who deletes stale drafts so this message should have gone around to all of the other admins like Explicit, BusterD, Justlettersandnumbers and everyone else. Liz ^{Read! Short Story by Hans Christian Anderson

Is every short story or tale by HCA notable just because it is by HCA? I see many of his stories that have their own page, but some that do not. It appears that some had a page, and then that page was removed. How would one know in advance? I wouldn't want to go to the effort of writing a page only to have it be deleted.

Hello, Darryl.Kerkeslager,

I don't do a lot of editing in this area so I can't answer your question. My best guess is that articles are written on subjects where decent sources exist and there could be a lot of stories that haven't been analyzed by academics or folklorists. I think the only way you'd know that in advance is to start your research and if you can find a lot of supporting literature, then you can probably write a decent start article.

My other suggestion is to look at the articles that do exist and see which editors have worked on them in the past. Contact editors that have worked on this articles would be the best judges for these questions, and I hope a few are still active. Also, on the Talk pages for these articles, there are often WikiProjects listed and you can go to the talk pages for these WikiProjects and pose your questions there and hopefully there are still some interested editors around who could help you. Sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer.

That was a bad edit summary but sometimes I edit when I'm in a hurry and the skin I used just fills in blanks with words I've used before in other situations. When I look at the edit now, I think I just agreed with the editor who removed that category from this article, I believe, because no one was convicted of murder. As best I can tell, for every contribution by 119.224.60.232 (talk · contribs · IP contribs · WHOIS) that's after 10 September 2025 at 04:31 UTC (also, all over 6000 bytes of increased size) are suffused with copyright violations. I don't see any edits after 10 September. They stopped editing on 9 September. Can you tell me which pages you are concerned about? We don't often revision delete on User pages unless they are personal attacks because it is unlikely anyone will comb through the page history on an obscure editor who didn't edit here for very long. Every edit they made after 10 September 2025 at 04:31 UTC is full of copyrighted material. For example, their very next edit (at 04:32), they pasted Asimov's short story, "The Last Question", into the talk-page history sixteen times; another example was at anarcho-punk thirteen minutes later, where they pasted some other work into the article history many times (at least eight, I think). — Fourthords | =Λ= | 21:36, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

I looked and restored what I could find that had ever been deleted. If there was no longer any deleted draft to restore, I'm not sure why you wished me to respond here when the request could no longer be fulfilled and are now seemingly upset with me for doing what can not be done. I guess you just want me to acknowledge these messages that I didn't respond to in a timely manner? If that is the case, I will respond to them all, whether or not their requests can be fulfilled. Repurposing MyNetworkTV affiliates as Independent stations

Since you decided to delete the list of MyNetworkTV affiliates article following an article for deletion request, I decided to add them back onto the List of independent television stations page. This was a result of an archived discussion on the talk page of Television stations task force regarding its status as a broadcast network, and they agreed that MyNetworkTV affiliates are effectively independent stations according to Nielsen Media Research, with the secondary affiliations as a footnote. ~2026-65791-8 (talk) 02:00, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

@Liz I think I worked out what you mean now? I was confused by your message because I thought Category:Terrorism in the 2020s and Category:Terrorism in the 2010s counted as already "existing". They appear automatically on the header, e.g. Category:Terrorism_in_2010. But there were two pages I made for categories in that set, so I marked those pages for deletion, and deleted those categories from pages where I added them. I also undid the change I made on the header. I was trying to stop it auto generating near-empty categories, but I'm not really sure how it works, so I should have asked for advice first. I have already cleared that the redirects which I have done was only because those were stubs and has less sources than required or without any sources. I have no malice or anything from anyone. In this particular case, it looks to me like a technical error: The deletion log says the page (the category) was moved, but the page history says it was not. I was about to restore it (and let the bot move it), but I know there are some people around watching my admin actions hoping to find something they could take me to ArbCom or to recall with, so I do not think it would be a good idea for me to unilaterally restore it. Wikipedia editors are volunteers. There are some outside agencies that sell their services and make promises but they are mostly scam artists that collect money and don't deliver. But the vast majority of us, we just do this editing for education and entertainment. I’m reaching out about the deleted Shwa Losben article. I’m the subject (and aware of the COI guidelines), though I didn’t create the original page.

There are a number of independent sources that weren’t fully reflected before, including coverage in The Washington Post, DCist, NBC Philadelphia, and recent industry reporting in Deadline about a feature film I wrote.

Would it be possible to restore the deleted version to Draft space so I can improve it before any resubmission?

Version history question...

I just removed URLs from two citations in an article that contained quite a number of 'odd' parameters like a user agent string, two email addresses, and hex strings. They were first added in the edit prior to mine. I don't quite know what all of them mean, but is this something that could/should be purged from the version history? We have millions of edits in the page history of different articles. I'm not sure what you mean by "purged". You can always go into the page history to find content that has bee overwritten by newer edits. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 06:54, 21 February 2026 (UTC)

Probably not called "purging", but the thing that is done to copyright infringing text, personal attacks on talk pages, and I would think, user privacy issues whenever they come up. The revision's date changes to grey with a line drawn through it, and the links for "cur" and "prev" diffs are disabled. Does having a user-agent string from a browser, and/or the email addresses "botmanager_support@radware.com" and "noc@wikimedia.org" showing up fall under Wikipedia's definition of sensitive information that shouldn't be publicly visible forever? The Onijah Robinson article was deleted due to BLP sourcing concerns abd the BLP1E guideline. I'm currently reviewing additional coverage from several international sources and considering working on an improved version with stronger sourcing. Hi Liz, I saw that you deleted the Cypronia article, a non-American game studio from the early internet era with some popular games. Many sources are non-English, which makes verification tricky. I noticed the deletion caused a few broken links— 8 for Cypron Studios and 15 for Cypronia. The article is currently under re-deletion review, so I thought I’d mention it in case it’s useful. Administrator Advice

Hello! I reached out to User:Ceranthor to discuss requests for RfA nominations first, but you have been such an inspiration to me that I wanted to talk to you as well about the work of an administrator. If it weren't for your encouragement, I would not be auto-patrolled today.

As you may remember, I have been a Wikipedia editor for more than a decade and have created more than 100 high quality pages, with more than 34,000 edits under my belt. However, I am not here to ask for a nomination to be an administrator. Although I believe that I would be a good fit for the role, I believe that I could do more and be a more outstanding member of this community. If you would be open to poking around my work and giving any notes, I would love to hear them.

Before you even have to search through them, I wish to disclose two errors from the past, both of which I would be forthcoming about in an administrator discussion. The first was more than a decade ago, when I first joined Wikipedia. I created a Wikipedia page for a tattoo artist named Sasha Unisex, one that I now clearly understand did not have the necessary sourcing. This was quickly noticed and deleted by User:Mike Rosoft, just as I would do today. Not understanding the space or the rules at the time, I vandalized his user page in a fit of rage, something easily undone and yet nonetheless wrong and hurtful. I was not even an adult then, and I certainly did not behave like one, something that I regret tremendously. I finally had the guts to write a formal apology on his Talk Page last year, and I have tried in the decade since to be a kind and inclusive member of our community. (Since he is also now tagged in this discussion, I'd be honored to receive his guidance as well, although I apologize for bothering him on a second page with this as well.)

The second error was a mass redirect discussion that I was involved in. Seeing literally thousands of redlinks as part of Supreme Court of the United States rulings, I decided to redirect them to the individual years of cases that they were ruled in, believing this could help law students and others seeking these older cases. However, after another user working to create new articles for SCOTUS case redlinks found that their project was complicated by my creation of redirects, a discussion over my good faith edits resulted in them being returned to redlinks. This did not stop me from receiving autopatrolling permissions, but it has impacted the percentage rate of my active edits. This was the case in which we first connected. Outside of this, I have never edited or created a page for money, and I hope that my work is able to speak for itself.

I want to be the best member of this community that I can be, since it means so much to me. Any feedback that you have on my path to administrator-dom would be amazing. "Empty" categories

Tagging a brand new category for speedy deletion as "empty" three minutes after creation is premature. This is not even the first time this week that this has happened. Please allow a reasonable amount of time before applying tags. eh bien mon prince (talk) 22:58, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

I don't notice when a category was created. About 4 times a day, I do a search for Empty categories and tag the ones that I find. I'm sorry if this tagging came right at your heels. When turned on, Baby Globe is shown on ~2,500 articles, waiting to be discovered by readers. The feature is available for all Wikipedias to customise through Community Configuration until 6 April 2026. So far 17 Wikipedias have joined in the fun.
• Wikipedia's 25th birthday party celebrated on Commons: Content from the January 15th global birthday party selected as Media of the day.

• Etherpad cleanup: For security and performance reasons, all current pads on Wikimedia’s Etherpad instance, the web-based "ephemeral" editor for real-time collaborative document editing, will be permanently deleted after 30 April. We will continue running this Etherpad instance to support events and other short-term collaboration, but will be periodically deleting data going forward. If you have content in Etherpad you want to keep, please create local backups, as data will be permanently deleted and will not be able to be recovered.
• Activity tab: Wikipedia iOS app has rolled out the improved Activity tab to all users in version 7.9.0. A/B test results showed increased account creation among users with access to the feature. Updates include enhanced editing impact insights, module customization, and relocation of History into the Search tab.
• Reference Check: The feature Reference Check has been deployed to all Wikipedias. In A/B testing, the impact was substantial: newcomers shown Reference Check were approximately 2.2 times more likely to include a reference on desktop (or acknowledge/explain why they did not) and about 17.5 times more likely on mobile web.
• Semantic search: The Foundation has launched a limited Android mobile app experiment that tests hybrid search capabilities which can handle both semantic and keyword queries. The Phase 1 beta is now live on Greek Wikipedia. The goal is to understand whether combining meaning-based retrieval with keyword search helps readers find information more effectively. Testing will expand to English, French, and Portuguese Wikipedias in March.
• Navigation experience: The Foundation will run an experiment for mobile web users, that adds a table of contents and automatically expands all article sections, to learn more about navigation issues they face. The test will be available on Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Indonesian, and Vietnamese Wikipedias.

• Site notices: Site notices (MediaWiki:Sitenotice and MediaWiki:Anonnotice) now will render on all platforms, not just on the desktop site. Users on mobile web will now see these notices and be informed.
• Tech News: Latest updates from Tech News week 08 and 09 include the new “Edit full page” button for people who are editing a page-section using the mobile visual editor. They also link to the 40 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
• Wikifunctions: Abstract Wikipedia is going to have its public preview within the next few weeks, here is the preview.

I'm not sure how involved you are in this case, I just wanted a second opinion so thank you. I see this kind of thing a couple times a year, an overly enthusic new editor just goes overboard creating dozens and dozens of categories or redirects or sometimes an entirely new WikiProject overnight, usually. No worries! Happy to give the second oppinion! I've been keeping an eye on them for similar reasons. They've been at it for a couple of weeks with making overlapping categories. WP:C1 and {{Wikipedia category}}

Hi Liz, I appreciate all the work you do in the maintenance space, but have some concerns that many of the empty categories you've tagged don't meet the CSD criteria.

WP:C1 says that it does not apply to project categories that by their nature may become empty on occasion, and also to Place {{Possibly empty category}} (or, for administrative categories, {{Wikipedia category}}) at the top of the page to prevent such categories from being deleted (emphasis mine). Many of your tags yesterday were on ineligible categories that had {{Wikipedia category}}, such as this one that's been used since 2011; it may be worth adjusting your search query to exclude any cats with this template?

Also a friendly request to please double check pages before tagging, as it appears you accidentally tagged this as empty. Thanks, nil ^nz 23:39, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for the deletion of Talk:Higglytown Heroes (2003 TV series) because i going through the tags list when I saw a talk page without an article. Highlights

• Supporting readers: For most of its history, Wikipedia did not have to worry about attracting readers. But with the way people search for information changing, there is a drop in the number of readers which is impacting the number of accounts created and contributions to our sites. Have a look at some of the ongoing and planned work to support reader experience.
• Server switch: All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on March 25 at 15:00 UTC. This is for the datacenter server switchover backup tests, which happen twice a year.
• Tools improvement: The PTAC Unsupported Tools Working Group continued improvements to Video2Commons in February, with fixes addressing authentication errors, large-file handling, task queue visibility, and clearer upload behavior. Work is still ongoing in some areas, including changes related to deprecated server-side uploads.
• Wikipedia 25 Grants: The celebration continues! The Wikimedia Foundation offers Wikipedia 25 Birthday Funds to communities planning Wikipedia’s 25th birthday events with funding between USD 1,000–2,000. Apply before March 31.

• Experiments: The Foundation is frequently conducting experiments to help learn what features will be most effective and valuable to the projects. The list of experiments in Product and Technology, tracks upcoming, live, in-analysis, and completed experiments as well as their rationale. For example, the tracker shares that one upcoming experiment, Reader to Contributor Baseline, will measure how many readers create contributor accounts and whether the rate differs depending on how people arrived to the site.
• Article guidance: Help less experienced editors by filling out a questionnaire on this page (available in 7 languages). The Foundation are looking particularly for experienced Wikipedia editors from these pilot wikis. Your answers will help customize guidance for less experienced editors while creating an article.
• Wikifunctions: You can now create Functions that will show a citation in their output.
• Editing feature: Suggestion Mode is available as a beta feature within the visual editor at all Wikipedias. This feature proactively suggests various types of actions that people can consider taking to improve Wikipedia articles, and learn about related guidelines.
• Paste Check: Paste Check is now available at all Wikipedias. The feature prompts newcomers who are pasting text they are not likely to have written into VisualEditor to consider whether doing so risks a copyright violation.
• Mobile experience: The user menu in the top corner for all mobile users is standardized so that it is closer to the desktop experience to improve the user interface for readers.
• Two-factor authentication: For security reasons, members of certain user groups are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Currently, 2FA is required to use the group, but not to be a member of it. Given that this model still has some vulnerabilities, the situation will gradually change in March.
• Tech News: Latest updates from Tech News week 10 and 11 include the new GraphQL API has been released as a flexible alternative to select features of the Wikidata Query Service (WDQS). They also link to the 50 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.

Highlights

• Supporting the mobile experience: The Foundation is starting conversations with communities to explore how editing should work on the Wikipedia mobile apps. The goal is to understand how to better support both new and experienced editors, and how the app can guide users to the right editing tools. Your input is welcome. Join the discussion!
• Wikimania 2026: Registration for Wikimania 2026 is opening soon from the end of March to May 1. Like other Wikimedia events this year, we are introducing a "request for invitation" process, with trust and safety checks conducted prior to confirming in-person attendance. Our priority is to create a safe environment for connection, collaboration, and shared learning.
• Around the Puzzle Globe in the CEE region: On March 23 almost 60 Wikimedians took part in the CEE-Catch up- a meeting for Wikimedians from Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. As a part of continuous conversations we have with the communities around the Foundation's annual plan, participants discussed the global trends related to Readers and Contributors in their regional context. The meeting was also an opportunity to connect with the new Foundation CEO, Bernadette Meehan, who is meeting communities around the puzzle globe to listen, learn and engage with the communities.

• Crawlers: The Foundation is now detecting and blocking billions of bot requests that don’t follow our robot policy, such as aggressive scrapers, to make sure our resources go towards serving human readers. In the coming months we’ll be working on better detection of rapidly changing bot behavior and better API infrastructure.
• Moderator tools for newer editors: Wikipedia editors in Indonesian, Thai, Turkish, and Simple English now have access to an early version of Special:PersonalDashboard. It introduces newer editors to patrolling workflows, making it easier for them to move from making edits to participating in more advanced moderation work on their project.
• Account creation on mobile: Mobile editors at several wikis are now presented with a simplified logged-out warning message, which encourages them to create an account or log in. This test is part of our ongoing effort to enhance the account creation experience on mobile and increase participation.
• Verification email redesign: The verification email sent to new accounts that add an email address during signup has been redesigned. When tested on English Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata, the same-week email verification rate increased from 41.6% to 45.9%.
• Retaining notification history: Wikimedia site users can export their notifications older than 5 years using a new Toolforge tool. This will ensure that users retain important notifications and avoid losing them based on the planned change to delete notifications older than 5 years, as previously announced.
• Tech News: Latest highlights from Tech News weeks 12 and 13 include the update that Wikimedia site users can now log in without a password using passkeys as a secure method supported by fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN. See also the 64 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
• Experiments: Check out the list of experiments in Product and Technology to see all upcoming, live, in-analysis, and completed experiments. One new experiment that just went live is the "Improve the logged-out warning message on mobile web," which aims to reduce the sense of friction or alarm when users encounter the logged-out warning upon editing.

I did delete this article in 2021. It was an expired PROD. You should know with PRODs that another editor is identifying problems they see with an article and the admin simply acts on the tagging after 7 days if it looks like it was a valid PROD tagging. So, that's what I was doing, responding to the tagging, not evaluating the article. Deleted PRODs can be restored by making a request to any admin or going to WP:REFUND with a request. It looks like you did the right thing during a period when I wasn't responding to talk page messages promptly and I apologize for that.

Looks like the article has been restore and you are working on improving it. If I can help in other ways, let me know and I promise, you won't have to wait another 2 months for an answer. Have a great summer weekend! Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 22:04, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Deletion of Draft:Rock Lititz

Greetings Liz. I will appear as new user. However, I previously edited many articles as user "Peteycat" but was unable to recover my password and so I set up this new account.

I wanted to create an article on the Rock Lititz stage production facility however I discovered one was previosly attempted and deleted by you. I tried to restore the draft to look at but it was blank. Do you have any insight into the deletion? Was it because the subject was deemed unworthy or was it an adminstrative issue?

I apologize for the delay in responding to you. I did delete this draft, Draft:Rock Lititz, as a stale draft, CSD G13, which is a standard process we do here for drafts that are considered "abandoned" that haven't had any human edits to the page in six months. Then you requested that the draft be restored and an admin did so. You have continued to work on the draft. Everything went according to policy and all content has been restored. Just catching up with some messages that it's taken me a while to respond to. I'm sorry for the delay.

I read this exchange with Epic genius at User_talk:Epicgenius/Archive/2026/Apr#h-U1_deletion?-20260405094400 which made perfect sense. Over the years, we have occasionally had problems with some editors who move bad articles or drafts to their User space and then tag them for speedy deletion as a CSD U1. I no longer patrol CSD categories any longer but those admins who do need to carefully check articles in User space that are tagged CSD U1. It looks like my role was in deleting a broken redirect. But I'll certainly be careful and I hope other admins will, too.

Hi, Liz, thanks for ping and the reply. As far as I'm concerned this is now water under the bridge. You've probably seen that a few days after posting here I undeleted, moved, reverted and re-deleted that specific page. I didn't check whether you'd deleted other similar pages improperly moved by the same user, but I suppose that if you did, those deletions should probably also be undone. @Justlettersandnumbers, thanks for the heads up. To my knowledge I haven't deleted any other pages by that user (or any others) which were improperly moved to userspace and tagged with U1 or G7. But yeah, if the tagging user isn't the only major contributor to the page before and after it was moved to userspace, the U1 and G7 criteria wouldn't be applicable, and the page should not be deleted.

Thank you for the suggestion.

The problem was mostly in one set of categories. I moved a lot of pages from "terrorism" categories to "political violence" categories, because I hadn't noticed that label is used differently for groups vs incidents until somebody pointed this out. This left a set of newly created "terrorism" categories empty.

I've been asking HB about any new categories that I expect will be controversial before I create them, but I hadn't noticed that sometimes a group's actions are in terrorism categories without the group being in similarly named categories.

The other G7 have been occasional typos. I usually check if a category can be filled before creating it, I just hadn't noticed the groups vs incidents difference.

Archives: I find it difficult to read long talk pages, so I set the max size of my automated talk archives quite small. When I manually archive, I don't save individual messages, but I start a new page for a new issue or topic sometimes.

Design mock for mobile page previews.

• Navigating articles on mobile: The Foundation is launching an experiment to test how to make it easier and more intuitive for readers to navigate through articles on mobile. To do this, we want to test Mobile Page Previews. This experiment will go live the week of April 20 and will run for four weeks.
• Editing tools for new editors: Tone Check was deployed on French, Japanese, and Portuguese Wikipedia as a default-on feature for editors who have published 100 or fewer edits locally. When promotional or subjective language is added, users are prompted to consider "neutralizing" the tone of the edit.
• Managing watchlist labels: The new watchlist labels feature is now available via VisualEditor, the source editor, and the "watchstar" (or watch link, for skins that don’t have a star icon). Previously it was only possible to assign labels via EditWatchlist.
• Latest experiments: See all upcoming, live, in-analysis, and completed experiments in Product & Technology. A new experiment that just went live is one which aims to establish a baseline retention rate for logged-in readers.
• Latest Wikifunctions: Check out the partial list of the 102 new functions created last week – likely the first week we have exceeded 100.
• Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 14 and 15 include an ongoing A/B test running on 10 Wikipedias to evaluate a clearer, more user-friendly message that promotes account creation on wikis. See also the 68 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
• Community discussions on Semantic Search: The Wikimedia Foundation, in collaboration with the CEE Hub, hosted a discussion session on Semantic Search for members of the CEE Youth Group.

• Wikidata API: Wikidata’s structured knowledge is now available through Wikimedia Enterprise.
• Annual Planning and global trends: Join the America APP call on April 21 at 18:00 UTC. This meeting is an opportunity for the Latin American community to ensure that the region's voice helps shape the Wikimedia Foundation's work and priorities for the next fiscal year. The call will be in Spanish with interpretation into Portuguese and English. The last meeting between Wikimedia EDs and Foundation staff was dedicated to discuss global trends too. More discussions are happening on-wiki and in community spaces around different regions and projects.
• Futures Lab: The world is changing around us. As the Wikimedia movement navigates this moment over a hundred Wikimedians from different Wikimedia projects came together to deepen our understanding of how these trends are impacting our people and projects at the Wikimedia Futures Lab.
• Fundraising Hub: The Wikimedia Foundation has launched Fundraising Hub on English Wikipedia. The first discussion you can participate in is about distributing fundraising banner on English Wikipedia throughout the year.

Thanks for letting me know. The great thing about CSD C1 empty category deletions is if the category is needed in the future, it can easily be restored. It has the {{Empty category}} template. In the future, it's not impossible that pages may populate this category. The category must exist in order for pages to populate it. If the category is deleted and pages later are tagged with Expert Needed (in this specific topic), the category will not show as a redlinked one at the bottom of the article. See aslo CFD. The query generates a list of redirects from the Wikipedia namespace (NS4) to the main namespace (NS0), e.g.

• WP:Alfanar_Projects - Alfanar_Projects
• WP:Ali_El_Hammami - Ali_El_Hammami
• WP:Alonzo_Gaffeny - Alonzo_Gaffney
• WP:Anna_McCarthy - Anna_McCarthy

In most cases, the redirects are a result of a move from the user or draft namespace to the Wikipedia namespace before they get correctly moved to the main namespace. We used to delete them as db-error G6. I hardly ever run the query. Best, Sam Sailor 18:05, 20 June 2026 (UTC)

I appreciate the attempt at an explanation but I still don't understand what these codes mean or when I can expect to encounter them. I don't know these numbers. I don't see many examples of pages being moved from User/Draft namespaces to the Wikipedia namespace. Most of the time, editors moving any pages into the project, Wikipedia namespace, are making a mistake. I can't think of a valid reason for a page move from User/Draft space to Wikipedia space. If we are not supposed to delete these mistakes as "errors", is there another CSD criteria that would be appropriate?

Empty categories

Were you aware that Mason has been removing pages from categories I created? You told me in March to not leave categories empty and I followed your instructions. May 2026 Administrator Election – Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

• April 29 – May 5: Call for candidates
• May 8–12: Discussion phase
• May 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

• The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
• Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
• The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
• The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
• Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

• Confirming email addresses: On several wikis, logged-in editors who haven’t confirmed their email addresses now see a banner encouraging them to do so. Confirming the email address helps users restore account access if they lose it and receive messages about their accounts. It also provides an easy option to communicate with other users off-wiki if they choose. As of early 2026, about 62.9% of all registered Wikimedia user accounts that have an email set had not confirmed it.
• Testing mobile web page previews: Mobile page previews experiment was launched on Arabic, English, French, Italian, Polish, and Vietnamese Wikipedias. Page previews are pop-ups that show a thumbnail, a lead paragraph, and a link to the full article to improve content discovery. It is already available on desktop and in the apps.
• Account creation experiment: Account creation experiment is live on Hindi, Indonesian, Bengali, Thai, and Hebrew Wikipedia targeting 10% of logged-out mobile web users. It looks at whether adding a button to create accounts in the mobile web header boosts new registrations and increases mobile users contributing to the wikis.
• Experimenting with Hybrid Search on mobile apps: The Hybrid Search Phase 1 experiment on the Wikipedia Android app has concluded. It tested a combined keyword and meaning-based search methods to meet various information needs. The team is analyzing data and feedback, and will share insights and next steps soon.

• Latest experiments: See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology. One upcoming experiment is testing a refreshed Explore Feed to make it easier for readers to discover interesting content and visit Wikipedia app more often.
• Wikifunctions: Wikifunctions crossed 4,000 functions, with subtracting two complex numbers as the 4,000th function. Also, Abstract Wikipedia reached 1,000 articles. The article about the famous Indian Brahmin Chanakya marked this milestone.
• Reading lists now a beta feature: New accounts are now opted into Reading lists by default on all Wikipedia wikis. This brings the "Save pages" feature to the web, which has been popular in mobile apps. For users in the beta, a "Save page" (bookmark) button appears in the toolbar on every page. The watch/unwatch (star) option moves to the tools menu. The "Watchlist" button in the top navigation shifts to the user menu. A new "Saved pages" button takes its place. In June, the feature will be available to all users and a user preference will be added to choose between two sets of buttons: Watch + Watchlist or Save + Saved list. The other set will be in the tool and user menus.
• Structured Contents: Article Images and Lists now in Structured Contents payloads.
• Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 16 and 17 include CodeMirror 6 being promoted out of beta on Tuesday, April 21. See also the 45 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.

However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
• Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.

Category:BL-Class Antigua and Barbuda articles

Hi Liz. The reason I am trying to get this one deleted is because the project is not using BL-class on its assessment scale, so it will never be used. Yes, el.ziade, articles that are in Draft space or in User space, IF they have AFC tags on them, are considered abandoned and "stale drafts" (G13) if they go six months without a human edit. So going through your drafts twice a year and making a minor edit would remove this problem. I apologize for the delay. Draft:L'orgue mystique was due to be deleted as a stale draft CSD G13 and I made a tagging mistake. Usually we only mark drafts as tests if they are blank pages and this clearly had some work put into it. I'm sorry but I sometimes handle hundreds of stale drafts a day and can make a mistake or two. I've restore it for you so you should have another six months. You might want to move the draft into User space where it won't be as easily subject to the G13 bot's rules. May 2026 Administrator Elections – Voting Phase

The voting phase of the May 2026 administrator elections has started and will continue until 19 May 2026 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Hello, Rager7,

Sorry for the delay in responding to your questions. The history of this page is hard to follow as it has changed titles and namespaces several times but I can offer some advice in general to editors who use their User space a lot.

Primarily, do not put any AFC tags on your drafts until it is time to submit them to AFC for a review. We have a very efficient bot, User:DreamRimmer and if any page in Draft space or pages in User space with AFC go six months without an editor working on them, they are tagged for speedy deletion as a stale draft, CSD G13. If there are no AFC tags on a draft in User space, the bot will not bother them. So, you are going to be working on a draft over a long period of time and you know that you won't be submitting it for a while, just leave off any AFC tags until that time comes. OR, and this might be better, make sure that every few months, you make an edit on each draft you have and the bot will ignore them. It doesn't have to be a big edit, just some act that will cause the bot to believe you are working on the page.

But if this happens again and a page in Draft or User space gets deleted simply for being left alone too long like G13 or U6 (and no other reason), know that you can go to WP:REFUND and ask for it to be restored. As far as broken redirects go, I'm not sure what happened there but just remove the broken redirect content as soon as you are aware of it and things should be fine. Happy editing! Liz ^{Read! 2024 and 2025 NPP Awards

I'm very sorry for my delay in responding. This week is "Catch up with User Talk page messages Week". It's been a while since I've run into you and I hope you are well.

So, this article has a complicated history. When it was an article, it was discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Al-Shami and the decision was to turn it into a redirect. Over time, an editor decided to turn it from a redirect back into an article. Later, another editor, inappropriately, I think, moved this newly created article back to Draft space even though I think the article was too old to do so. I think it should have been reverted back into a Redirect which was the AFD decision unless that decision was contested and consensus had changed.

So, after months of inactivity, this forgotten draft was due to be deleted CSD G13 for being a stale draft. Since for years it served a purpose as a redirect, I decided rather than delete the draft, I'd restore it back to its redirect status, according to the AFD. I have no stake in this page and whether or not the community wants to delete this redirect or move it back to Draft space is up to your good decision. I will post a link at the RFD to my comments here.

Hi, I have a problem with a user and he suggested I should have talk to you about it. there was a discussion here about redirecting a page. I wasn't involved at the time, didn't know such discussion is happening. 5 months later when the discussion was done and nobody had redirected the page, I removed the tag and improve the page to make it better. now someone insists on redirecting that page because of the discussion in 2024. so what should I do now? how I can undo the redirect or re-open the discussion. sorry if this is not your business but I didn't know who else to ask this. thanks Sports2021 (talk) 21:37, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

This is not a quick and easy fix because what you are asking for is a reevaluation of an AFD decision which are often seen as final. I see two options and you can try either one but not at the same time.

You can go to RFD and ask to undo the redirection decision of Soft tennis at the 2022 Asian Games – Mixed doubles. I'm not a regular at RFD but I know sometimes a redirect is restored to an article and resubmitted to AFD for a review. This is a little risky because if your version of the article is not accepted, that is kind of a second final decision.

The other option is to take the content you wrote and create Draft:Soft tennis at the 2022 Asian Games – Mixed doubles and submit it to AFC. This is the only way I know of that can overturn an AFD decision and doing it this way would allow you to work on improving the draft article before it is submitted.

But please do not get into an edit war with editors and keep restoring the article in main space back into an article and have other editor undo your changes. They are acting according to policy and it could end up going to WP:ANEW and you could end up sanctioned. Take the slower but safer routed. Draft: Ashwin Srivastava Page

Liz, this draft I had worked on for more than 3 months. I kept on adding content with an aim to make it article-ready in a year or so, after being reviewed by administrators.

Some editor whose contribution logs are suspicious, changed the draft, and moved the page to Articles, which was deleted and rightly so.

I request you to restore the version that was there before this user edited my version and then shifted this draft to articles, or help me by sending the version in some manner. MumbaiUser123 (talk) 19:33, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

First, I deleted broken redirects so actually, I have never directed this article or a draft version. But you are right, the draft shouldn't have been moved to main space. Another version was deleted through an AFD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ashwin Srivastava and the only way that deletion can be overcome is to create a better draft version and submit to AFC for review.

As far as restoring your version, I think we need to ask User:Seraphimblade who actually did the deletion which was for CSD G11 promotional content. You can go to their User talk page and inquire there of maybe they will reply here. The situation is that MumbaiUser123 was working on a draft version and an inexperienced editor moved it to main space where it was deleted. Seraphimblade, how would you feel about restoring the article back to Draft space and let MumbaiUser123 continue to improve it and submit it for AFC review? I looked at the last version of the draft which was being written by MumbaiUser123, as it's generally my practice to look at prior versions of articles I delete under G11, since if one can revert to a non-spam version that is preferred over G11 deletion. That was still a G11-level CV, and I oppose restoring it to any namespace. My general offer, with advertisements, is that I will provide a list of the sources used in the deleted version to any editor who wants them, but I will not restore any of the text since that will need a total rewrite. You are totally right. This is bad. I've alway been slow to respond on my user talk page over the years but I just neglected it and busied myself with other tasks. Part of this is that when I do communicate, it's not with one sentence but often with paragraphs of content. Also, I've had some stressful issues (health, housing, etc.) in my offline life that has caused me to want to reduce time spent communicating with others but that's never an excuse for admin accountability. I'll get started on this today and over the next few days I'll have responded to them all. Thanks for taking the time to bring this to my attention as a friend instead of a drill sargeant. Thank you for responding to a some messages! I'm going to be kind by being direct here, because I don't want this to escalate further. You archived some of the aforementioned requests without responding to them (if I've got it right, they're question numbers 2–7). Given it's been so long since they were asked, perhaps you could follow up on the users' talk pages? There are also many unarchived, outstanding questions, and I'd strongly encourage you to devote your energies to replying to them rather than doing more admin tasks, like G13s or C1s. Hi Liz. I am a survivor of a terrible accident but as a conten-driven user I am very relaxed about editing, and categorizing. It has been a while since I have been able to access the internet. Can I ask you a question? Because the recent speedy deletions seems strange to me in my discussion, sent by you. We are a global movement. But I cannot understand this. With Regards. Hey Liz again. I think some categories are intentionally has been emptied in advance so that they can be quickly deleted. For example, why is there no social writer in Iran or Iraq? Please do not adopt a conspiracy mindset. Most editors on Wikipedia have a limited time they can spend editing here and focus on subjects they care about, not sabotaging other areas. The fact of the matter is that most people have a narrow set of issues they are interested in and subjects that you care a lot about may not be areas of interest in them. The hardest problem we have is attracting editors to spend their time on topics that are important and significant but that not many people want to devote their free time to. If you can reach out to other editors who share your interests through, for example, participation in a WikiProject, then our coverage generally rises in quality. Question about moving an article

Hi Liz, I hope you’re having a good day. I’ve been working on the Sahnioxylon rajmahalense article, and I noticed that most of the content actually describes the genus Sahnioxylon rather than just the species. I’m considering whether it might be more appropriate to move the page to Sahnioxylon and reorganize it at the genus level. I’d really appreciate any thoughts you’re willing to share.

I encourage you to review the advice at Wikipedia:Requested moves so you can see whether a move is appropriate and whether you should file a request for another editor to handle the move. Also, the Teahouse is a great place to go with questions like this becuase more experienced editors review questions there so you'll have more editors who know about article moves offering you advice. Draft cats

Why did you undelete the empty draft categories after deleting them yourself? They have been empty and unused for a fairly long while and serve no purpose when there are far more feasible parent cats available. These are just a waste of space and overcategorization. I fail to see how retaining these is beneficial to the encycloepdia when most are for drafts of very specific subjects. — Trailblazer¹⁰¹🔥 ^{(discuss · contribs)} 01:39, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

Hello, User:Trailblazer101,

I had an accident yesterday where I mass deleted all of the empty categories in Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion. They are supposed to sit there for 7 days to give editors time to check them before they are deleted because sometimes they are emptied "out of process". If you look at the deletion rationale for that deletion on 6/7, you'll see that it had an incorrect CSD criteria that I actually needed to use on a different page. I've been an admin for 11 years but I have only made this particular mistake once before years ago. So, my solution was to revert all of those category and category talk page deletions.

If those categories are still empty 7 days after they were tagged, they will be deleted, I assure you. But what you are responding to was a mistake on my part and edits that I made to "fix" it. I'm sorry if this was confusing. Please know though that categories that are deleted purely for being empty (CSD C1) can be recreated by any editor who thinks there is a current use for them so they can always be recreated in the future. This is not true for categories deleted through Categories for Discussion but it is true for empty categories. I hope this explanation is adequate, it was a rare incident and just happened to affect empty categories you tagged for speedy deletion. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 17:08, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

• Community Wishlist discussion: Product & Technology introduced changes meant to increase the number and complexity of wishes fulfilled, including the disbanding of the Community Tech team. They are engaging in discussions about a proposed direction for the wishlist from community members. Includes ways to structure annual voting, better tracking of wishes, removing focus areas, and staffing updates.
• Digital Public Goods: The Wikimedia Foundation has become a member of the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA).
• Better bot detection: A trial of hCaptcha on several Wikipedias, including English, French, and Japanese, showed it can effectively detect and deter bad-faith automated activity, on its own and by giving checkusers and stewards signals to look into. Based on these results, hCaptcha will be rolled out across all wikis. See the project page for technical information about the implementation and privacy protections.

Example of the Attribution Framework recommendations.

• A better way to give credit: The Wikimedia Attribution Framework and API makes it simple for developers to fairly credit volunteer contribution. When anyone encounters Wikimedia content, we want them to know that it comes from our projects, and they are invited to participate.
• Baby Globe joins the Reading Challenge: The Android and iOS Wikipedia apps released the 25-day reading challenge, to drive readers engagement through reading milestones. To track their reading streak during the challenge, users can add a widget featuring Baby Globe to their home screen.
• Account security: The Foundation is technically enforcing that all privileges that enable users to take security- or privacy-sensitive actions can only be held by users who have enabled two-factor authentication. Logging in with passkeys is quicker than logging in without two-factor authentication. In addition, logged-in users can see a banner encouraging them to confirm their email address. These changes secure individual accounts as well as communities and the wikis.
• Incident reporting form: The Foundation began a trial on English Wikipedia of the incident reporting form. 60% of unblocked logged-in users see a new Report button, allowing them to report conduct issues.
• Encouraging account creation: Following a successful account creation experiment, an improved logged-out edit warning message will be deployed to all Wikimedia wikis this week. The change will only affect logged-out users on mobile web who open an editing session.
• Wikimedia Android App: The Wikipedia Android App is at the Phase 1 of redesigning its Home Feed. The new feed includes two tabs: Community, featuring refreshed Explore content, and For You, with personalized reading recommendations based on reader interests and activity. The For You feed refreshes daily with updated suggestions.
• Better discovery of images: The Image Browsing beta feature was rolled out for all Wikipedias on mobile following two successful experiments. The beta feature will include a carousel of all an article’s images at the top of the article, with controls for editors to exclude images from the article’s carousel or to exclude an article from the feature entirely.
• Reading Lists feature: The Foundation is conducting an experiment to show the reading lists feature, which is still in development, to logged-out mobile readers to test whether it encourages account creation at a higher rate compared to the watchstar button. The experiment was launched on May 18 on German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Turkish, and Urdu wikis, and will run for a month.

• Testing Suggestion Mode: Suggestion Mode was released as an A/B test for newcomer editors on the mobile website at ~15 Wikipedias. The experiment will measure its impact on the proportion of newcomer mobile web edit sessions that result in constructive (un-reverted) article edits. It will also evaluate the feature’s impact on editor retention and monitor changes in revert and block rates.
• Wikifunctions now supports Wikidata references: References in Wikidata statements are now available on Wikifunctions, and you now can use external links in Wikifunctions-generated citations. This allows the use of more than 1.3 billion references available in Wikidata and adding them as citations to individual statements in Abstract Wikipedia.
• Pilot wikis adopting Abstract Wikipedia: The Abstract Wikipedia team has identified five potential pilot wikis to assess their interest in adopting abstract articles on their wikis. The pilots are Malayalam, Bengali, Dagbani, Arabic, and Indonesian Wikipedia. If your community is interested in becoming a pilot, let us know on Meta.
• Latest experiments: An upcoming experiment is testing whether we can serve readers better when a footnote click in read mode shows the full bibliographic information rather than flying them to the reference list. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
• Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 20, 21, 22, 23 include an experiment to test a new Share Card feature that allows readers to create visually engaging cards from Wikipedia articles and share them online See also the 92 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.

We don't block on command. We try to talk out differences of opinion unless there is obvious vandalism and pointing to an article isn't sufficient. Have you communicated with the editor what the disagreement is on their User talk page? Have you started a discussion on the article talk page? Give it a try you might find you two agree on other points.

There are assertions of more recent sources proving notability, and the Polish wiki version lists several awards and distinctions. I don't know whether these meet the bar for notability on the English wiki, but this probably merits a discussion. If the Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion, I don't know why you are expecting a response from Liz. She properly deleted the article based on the discussion at the time, if Liz does not have the authority to undelete because this needs a consensus at Wikipedia:Deletion review that significant new information has come to light since a deletion that would justify undeleting the page, and previously deleted content may be helpful for writing a new version of the page – provided that an administrator declined undeleting the page and their decision is being challenged why does the administrator assessing the new information need to be the same admin who deleted it? I would be happy to undelete and move it to draft space for AfC review. – wbm1058 (talk) 16:21, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

I take lists of empty categories from here and tag them. They then sit in Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion for 7 days so do not worry, as soon as the articles start showing up in the currently empty categories, we remove the tags. To be honest, I think that WP:HARVIC is doing a lot of good at pre-empting arguments about potential notability of controversial, perennial attack BLP subjects like this (not that I see much in the way of notability in this particular case, as opposed to the other one you and I allude to here).

• App Explore feed: The redesigned App Explore feed, now called "Home", has been released to all Android users. The update introduces a refreshed feed experience along with the first set of new content modules, including Did You Know, Places of Interest, Random Article, and a new end-of-feed experience. Additional content and improvements are planned in future releases.
• Wikipedia games: The Which came first? daily trivia game is now available in the beta version of the Wikipedia iOS app in English, German, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and Turkish. The game uses historical events from Wikipedia’s “On This Day” content and challenges readers to guess which of two events happened first.
• Reusing references: Sub-referencing, a new MediaWiki feature that allows editors to reuse references with different details, has been rolled out to Group 1 wikis and French Wikipedia following a successful pilot phase.
• Article guidance: The Article guidance feature is being tested with some editors creating new articles on the Simple English, French, and Turkish Wikipedias. The experiment will soon begin on the Arabic and Bangla Wikipedias as well. The outlines guide less experienced editors in creating high-quality articles. A quick guide to markups used in outlines can be found on this page. Example outlines that can be adapted and instructions for how to adapt them are on this section of the project page.
• Mobile Page Previews: The Page Previews experiment on mobile web has concluded with the decision not to roll out the feature. The results showed no statistically significant impact on reader retention – the primary success metric. Page Previews, which are already available on desktop and in the apps, display a thumbnail, lead paragraph, and link to the full article when readers tap a blue link.
• Wikifunctions: You can now add images to Abstract Wikipedia and the loading and display of test results when viewing Functions has been improved.
• Wikidata: The Foundation is migrating the Wikidata Query Service (WDQS) away from the Blazegraph backend since it no longer scales efficiently with Wikidata’s growth. The migration will take place in several phases. Here is the timeline.
• Growth features: Growth features are now available at Wikidata!  Wikidata administrators are still configuring the features through Community Configuration, but this update enables access to Mentorship (if configured), Impact, the Help Panel, and a simplified Newcomer Homepage (without Suggested Edits).
• Mentors' management: The Growth team will soon provide a system to automatically suspend or remove inactive mentors from the list of mentors. Communities can already start configuring the process in the Community Configuration.
• Collaborative Contributions: If you need help setting up the Collaborative Contributions and the Goal setting features, check out these video guides. These features allow you to view which edits are made during an event and allows the group to track progress against a goal with a public progress bar. Learn more.
• Latest experiments: An upcoming experiment is testing whether we can serve readers better when a footnote click in read mode shows the full bibliographic information rather than flying them to the reference list. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
• Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News week 24 and 25 include how the user interface icon library is being updated. Most of the ~300 icons have been slightly refined and ~30 new icons have been added. See also the 62 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.

Weirdness with river article categories

Hi! I just saw you nominate Category:Stub-Class River articles for speedy deletion due to it being empty. And in fact it looks like all of the categories under Category:River articles by quality have suddenly become empty. Which seems to be some kind of systemic issue, and most likely an error of some sort? I haven't seen any mention of stopping using article classes in Wikipedia:WikiProject Rivers, and the table of River articles by class (User:WP_1.0_bot/Tables/Project/River), populated from those categories, was still showing tens of thousands of articles using these categories when it was last updated on June 23. I have added some discussion on the project page (</nowiki>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rivers#What_happened_to_the_article_classes?) to try to figure things out. Meanwhile I think it might be best not to speedy delete these categories. (At the very least, if they are to be deleted in favour of another means of categorizing articles, then that should probably be done systematically to all of those categories, rather than one at a time. We have lots of problems with WikiProject article categories. We generally leave them alone but, for some unknown reason, this specific category popped up on the the Empty Category list that we run every few hours. I can't tell you why this one and not the others appeared. Sometimes it gets off the list by posting several "Don't delete this even if it's empty" tags on the page and that's what I'll try. We do occasionally delete a WikiProject's article assessment categories if a) all of the article categories are empty, not just a few and b) the WikiProject has been tagged as defunct or inactive. This usually takes years of inactivity to happen which is not what happened here.

We have another, associated problem of assessment banners on the article talk page NOT leading to that article to be placed in article assessment categories which seems like the problem here. Sometimes, it just takes a few days to happen. But if you have further questions, the editor I know who knows the most about this weird category glitch is MSGJ. Most admins and editors are more focused on content-related issues so these quirks receive less attention but MSGJ has spent time looking into this issue. I'll also mention but not link Pppery because they are knowledgeable about the inner workings of the project but I don't think they have spent as much time looking at WikiProjects as MSGJ has.

As for this lone, odd category, I'll skip tagging it because clearly isn't what we typically see at Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion. Good luck tracking down any answers that may exist. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 22:26, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

I apologize for the delay in responding to your message. To be honest, I don't understand how Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working works and I don't go through the CFD daily logs.

I come across the results of a closed CFD nomination because throughout the day I run https://empty-categories.toolforge.org/ and many CFD closures involve emptying categories. My focus has been on tagging empty categories and then I some times need to work backwards to find a relevant CFD nomination if I have questions.

If I understood better how User:JJMC89 bot III functions and the Working page operates, I would start taking action and closing CFD discussions. If you had a moment to explain this to me, I could probably be more useful in that area of the project. But honestly, my focus up until now has been on tagging empty categories, not closing CFD discussions. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 03:47, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

When a discussion is closed it is either done by an admin or a non-admin. The admin will list the category at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working and then a bot will automatically process it. However that page is fully admin protected because of past abuse. If a non-admin closes it they list the category at Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion/Working and then in due course an admin will put it on the main page. This can sometimes take a few days as backlogs pile up. If a category is being emptied and deleted in the meantime it would help to remove it from the list there. Thanks. Yeah, it is genuinely irritating when people create categories by using preformatted templates that autogenerate and transclude parent categories, but then fail to follow through on creating whatever redlinks result from that so that it falls on the category cleanup crew (which means me a fair bit of the time) to fix it. I really wish the people who insist on farming everything off to preformatted templates would make more use of #ifexist when it comes to the categories, but asking them to be more conscientious about that hasn't really solved the problem either. I was just wondering if my edit summary of "Fair enough, not awkward though" on May 5th can be removed too because that's the target of all the harassment I've been receiving. This person has shared my phone number and the sort and I just if that edit summary was removed as well I'd finally be able to not feel so scared coming on this site anymore, knowing the target of the harassment is gone and potentially more people won't be coming on here to harass me. That would mean the world to me and I can share my story about how Wikipedia truly came through for me when I was desperate and scared and needed it most I'm just so tired and want it all to end. I'm sorry if you are feeling harrassed but can you point out where this editor shared your phone number or any other personal information? That is much more serious than an edit summary saying "Fair enough" as I can't see how that could anger anyone enough to pester you. That is clearly damaging content we should remove from the platform. My personal suggestion is please do not believe the rantings and threats of online trolls. • Wikipedia 25: Wikipedia's 25th birthday was celebrated with various projects designed to grow awareness and support for Wikipedia and the people who make it possible. This includes the virtual birthday event on January 15, which garnered 10,000 live viewers and 15,000 reactions. Find more details on all related projects and results in the program report.
• Sustainable use of Wikimedia infrastructure: A valid user-agent string will now be required for automated dumps downloads from the dumps.wikimedia.org website. Automated requests that provide a generic or empty user-agent will be blocked. This extends enforcement of the long standing user-agent policy. Access to dumps through Wikimedia Cloud Services will not change.
• Increasing account creation: The experiment providing direct access to “Create account” and “Log in” actions on mobile increased account creation by about 20% without negatively affecting edit quality. The feature will now be rolled out to all wikis on mobile web.

• Account security on private wikis: Two-factor authentication will become mandatory for user accounts on private wikis. This will protect private information from being exposed by an account with a compromised password.
• Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News week 26 and 27 include users will now get a notification when they are blocked or unblocked from editing, or if this block changes. See also the 65 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
• Team Challenges: The core organizing team for Wikimania is introducing Team Challenges, a different approach to Wikimania Hackathon. This year, Wikimedians and professionals from other fields will join forces to undertake one of the 2026 technical challenges.

Re: Category:Afghan dancers

Hi Liz, I hope you're well. I saw that you deleted the category Category:Afghan dancers after I recreated it, and the reason stated was because it was previously deleted because of this discussion. I disagree here. The discussion about the category previously deleted it because it was a "single-article category" and "Single article categories hinder navigation". However, the category was no longer a single-article category when I recreated it, so that rationale no longer applies. Category:21st-century Afghan dancers was a subcategory of the now-deleted category, and it has two pages in it (with potential for more to arrive when more pages are made). Sorry for the delay in responding, I see that you went ahead and recreated the category I deleted via CSD G4. I'm going to ping User:Smasongarrison and see what they think about this situation.

Ordinarily, we point editors wanting to recreate pages that have been deleted through deletion discussions (like CFD, AFD, etc.) to [[Wikipedia:Deletion review]|Deletion review] so that the closure can be reconsidered in light of new information but categories are their own, weird little universe that I find troublesome as there is no "Draft space" where editors can retry the content creation and have it be reviewed. It seems like a lot of bureaucracy to have a week-long discussion over a category that only concerns a handful of article. But, I'm undecided so I've told you what I understand the "rules" say and see what Smasongarrison because they have a great knowledge blend of policy and common sense. Hi @ArtemisiaGentileschiFan. I think the fundamental issue is that there still do not seem to be enough dancers to support this category tree. You created Category:21st-century Afghan dancers with two articles in it, and then used that child category as the reason Category dancers was no longer a single-article category.

But that seems to change the structure without really addressing the concern from the earlier discussion, which was that the category did not add enough navigational value. So I am curious why you think this particular category tree is needed now. What does it help readers find that the existing categories do not?

You seem quite invested in recreating it despite the feedback from the deletion discussion, so I would like to better understand what you see as the benefit.

Hi, thanks for the response. It was my understanding that the category was deleted specifically because it had only one article, and that single-article categories were non-useful. I thought that having multiple articles in the category addressed this issue. If I was wrong in that assumption, I apologize. I don't think I'm particularly "invested" in the category, I just thought that the deletion was no longer necessary. That makes sense. There's nothing to apoligize about or fight for. I'm more trying to understand what your goal is with the category tree, and help get a better sense of the category. Do you think that there are more pages out there that could belong in the category. There's nothing preventing recreation if there's a critical mass of pages. Right now the consensus is that two also isn't enough because those pages can just be interlinked.^SMason_Garrison 02:34, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

I'm glad I called you in, Smasongarrison. My personal opinion is colored by the fact that I think the system makes it incredibly difficult to review past CFD closures. Considering that there are probably less than a dozen editors who regularly participate in CFD discussions makes it challenging to file appeals against decisions to possibly overturn old closures.

On the one hand, there is policy, and on the other hand there are the demands of creating appropriate, well-written articles and categories. That's why I deleted your recreation of the category as a CSD G4 but I'm sympathetic to you, the category creator. It's almost as if the only solution is to create a new category with a different page title which fulfills what you want to do, ArtemisiaGentileschiFan, but goes against the spirit of the rules as they have been created and maintained. Request unsalting of article

Hey Liz! Awhile ago you deleted and salted Magicore Anomala because it was a redirect to a user space which is a violation of Wikipedia policy. I was the editor in question that mistakenly made that redirect. I originally put the page in the main space but was then told it violated Wikipedia:TOOSOON, so I attempted a series of blundered moves before I finally moved the article to the correct place in my user space. Firstly, sorry for leaving such a mess behind, I have now learned how to move correctly (and realized I could've just blanked the auto generated redirect) and won't make the same mistake again. I wanted to know if it's possible to unsalt the article to make it easier to move back to the main space when it no longer violates WP:TOOSOON.It's unlikely the article will be improperly made again since I was the only editor doing so (and that was very silly of me  Self-trout), and I won't be moving it anymore until a FINAL move back to main space when the time is right. 2 and 3 ingredient cocktails

Regarding two-ingredient cocktails and three-ingredient cocktails (which you deleted, per G8, ~5 years ago).

Out of curiosity, where (presumably) did those redirect to? Secondly, would you throw those to subpages of my userspace if either contain anything worthwhile content-wise in their page history.

@Godsy Two-ingredient cocktails had only a single revision, it redirected to Two-ingredient cocktail. The latter page was speedily deleted by Liz with the summary "G7 - created by a blocked editor" (presumably she meant G5 as it was created by User:Зенитная_Самоходная_Установка who is CU-blocked, presumably as as sock but I've not looked). It consisted of the two sentences below plus a list of ~35 examples and a see also to Three-ingredient cocktail. If you want the examples in your userspace just say.

A two-ingredient cocktail is a cocktail that can be made with as few as two ingredients, often a base spirit and one other ingredient. Such cocktails are often easier and quicker to prepare than more complicated cocktails.

Two-ingredient cocktail was also deleted two years later (December 2022) by user:DanCherek, also under G7 (this time correctly, the only editor was BarrelProof). That time it was a redirect to List of duo and trio cocktails. That target was deleted at AfD in 2003 (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of duo and trio cocktails) but was later userfied to User:Ɱ/List of duo and trio cocktails.

Three-ingredient cocktails also had just a single revision, a redirect to Three-ingredient cocktail, which target Liz also speedily deleted under G7 when she meant G5 (@Liz, please self-administer a {{minnow}}), created by the same cu-blocked editor. It had the same format as two-ingredient cocktail with an intro paragraph (see below) a list of 15 examples (available on request) and a see-also to two-ingredient cocktail.

A three-ingredient cocktail is a cocktail that can be made with as few as three ingredients. The technical, 19th-century definition of a cocktail stated that it should consist solely of three ingredients: spirit, sweetener, and bitters. Sours consisting of spirit, sweetener, and citrus are another kind of three-ingredient cocktail. An advantage of many such cocktails is the relative ease of making them, particularly at home, compared to cocktails with longer lists of ingredients.

Both articles also had minor edits from Onel5969 and the latter also a spelling fix by user:2603:3015:2500:9200:7de7:78e5:8807:e6a4. Thryduulf (talk) 10:34, 12 July 2026 (UTC)

Just to summarize, these articles pages have been deleted and restored, via CSD, PROD'd, AFD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of duo and trio cocktails) and moved around but currently reside at User:Ɱ/List of duo and trio cocktails. I'm not sure if there is any content that has fallen through the cracks here that needs restoration. It's a long page history that you might need to comb through. Sorry for the delay in my response. Incorrect speedy deletion

You speedily deleted Next Belgian federal election under criterion WP:CSD#G8, but this was incorrect because only the most recent revision pointed to a non-existent page (WP:CSD is explicit that a page is only eligible if all it's revisions are speedily deletable. Instead this should have been reverted and the open RfD discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2026 July 11#Next Belgian federal election allowed to play out. Based on your comment in the now-closed RfD I think the issue here is that you are deleting redirects because they appear on a list of broken redirects without checking the history of the redirect. It's worth reiterating that a page is only speedily deleteable if all its revisions meet one or more speedy deletion criteria, so checking the page history is not optional. World Tennis (formerly ITF)

Liz, you deleted World Tennis (formerly ITF) for WP:G8. Note that a page is eligible for speedy deletion only if all of its history is also eligible. World Tennis (formerly ITF) targeted World Tennis before its target was changed. Most of these have been undeleted before and some of them have been undeleted twice before. We're getting into the " Declined pending further information. This was undeleted over six months ago with a pledge that it would be worked on, but no edits were made to improve the entry for resubmission. Draft space is not an indefinite hosting service for material found to be unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia's article mainspace. We may be willing to restore it again, but only if you provide a definite assurance that you actually intend to work on it and provide a short description of what you intend to do to improve it to meet our policies and guidelines.  Done Since The Transhumanist came here, not WP:REFUND, and I didn't see Pppery's message, I restored these drafts since it seems like that was the message I was getting from so many editors here. Again, I'll say that I'm not the deleting admin in all of these questions. I try to get to requests in a timely manner but sometimes I don't because I have a lot of other tasks here. This was the reason I'm not on the Arbitration Committee either, too many other things to do here. I'm sorry that I seem to have disappointed so many of you. I have tried my best. Mass Mario deletions

I spot-checked quite a few of these redirects before deletion and it looked like the sockpuppet was the creator and only editor on these pages. But, if you're saying I'm wrong, then I'm wrong as I didn't look at them all and I'll be fine to undo my work upon request. My question is, there are several tools to do a mass deletion and I know there is a way to do a mess undeletion but I'm not familiar with it. If you know, could you fill me in or point me to the right information page. I'll also ping User:MSGJ as they are familiar with many tools of Wikipedia. Mass actions without paying close attention to what you are doing are bad. Okay, I've finished reviewing all of your deletions. Here's a list of pages that need to be undeleted. It looks like you took specific categories where the sockpuppet had created some redirects and categorically assumed every redirect in that category must have been created by the sockpuppet, the logic of which baffles me. Please be more careful about what you are doing and don't presume guilt. today, I was playing catch-up with these undeletions of those mistaken CSD G5 redirects but you are getting to every last one of them! How about I not only be more careful, I just don't do any more mass deletions AT ALL with sockpuppet cases. i thought I was doing this great service and I just created more work for others. I did learn how to mass "undelete" with Twinkle but you are much better at these tools than I was. I wish there was a way I could give you a virtual tip as I'm sure you had other plans of tasks you planned to spend today doing. I greatly appreciate your assistance. Liz ^{Read! It's worth noting that just one month ago Liz was actively reminded of the ADMINACCT responsibilties. Since then there are multiple requests that have gone unanswered on this page, and multiple others that have been handled by other editors. @Liz this is not good enough - you are responsible for responding to questions and requests about your admin actions, and you are responsible for doing so in a timely fashion.

Redirect that you recreated

It looks like you are referring to a redirect I undeleted on 15:49, April 14, 2026. Sometimes pages are restored because deleting them would create a lot of broken redirects which we discover at User:AnomieBOT III/Broken redirects. This is why I often am asking editors who do page moves to leave a redirect behind when they move an older or popular article which has acquired a lot of redirects. This also frequently happens with page move vandalism. A vandal moves an article to an inappropriate title, the helpful Wikipedia bots "correct" all redirects to point to the bad title and when our vigilant vandal fighters return the article to the right title, they don't leave a redirect behind and we end up with dozens of broken redirects behind. I can create a "bad redirect" because eventually our bots will correct double redirects which is what we want to happen or if there are only a few, I'll fix them myself. We can always delete the "bad redirect" from the bad title to the correct title but if those broken redirects are deleted, it can be a challenge to find and restore them.

I'm not sure what happened to Avon but Pppery is correct, the best thing to do in these situations is to take it to WP:RFD. I know it often can seem quicker to ask an admin to flick the "delete/undelete" switch but in complicated cases that can impact other pages/articles, it's best to bring it to a discussion to get input from editors whom, in this case, are familiar with redirects. Previously, I have been unable to find the draft. There were links that took me to the metaphysics page, yet no draft was present. These extenuating circumstances beyond my control has kept me from making timely edits.

Hello, Petuniabaa,

Please do not apologize. I've been editing here since before 2013 and as you can see here, I still am learning things. I can help you if you are working on a laptop. At the top of the page is a horizontal menu which should have a tab marked "Edit". Click on that tab and you should be able to edit any area of the page. Also, there should be a link near the top of each paragraph stating, "Edit" and clicking on that should allow you to edit that paragraph. This is the standard format for editing on Wikipedia.

However, if you are editing on a phone or mobile device or any other formats for editing, I'm going to have to direct you to the Teahouse. This is a discussion board for new editors and there are kind people there with a lot more knowledge than I have that can help you out. It's just a matter of finding the right person to direct your question to. And we have new editors joining every day so you can rest assured that all of your questions have been asked before this. Message to all Talk Page Watchers

I have received over 22 messages on my User talk page today and feel a little besieged although I'm sure that this adjective will be seen in a negative light as well. Explanations I provide get labeled "excuses" so I feel like I have to be very careful with words here. I'm respond to one message and find that I've screwed something else up so I'm just going to start all communications from the bottom of this page rather than the middle and hopefully I can get to every question in an acceptable amount of time. It seems like this started with my mistake in using a batch deletion feature for dealing with a sockpuppet's edits and I've already stated that I won't do that again and has mushroomed out into other complaints about me so I'll start at the bottom of the page and hopefully come to some point in the middle where everyone is satisfied. @Balabush There's nothing special to be said about the draft you have created -- as a page in the draft namespace, it does not appear to be a page that should presently be deleted. I suppose it wasn't created using a large language model, I suppose its content does not breach copyright, and the content is not promotional in a worrying way. There is no reason to ask for specific feedback from Liz. The issue of whether the draft should be moved to article space is something about which you can get help from many editors interested in creating new articles from drafts; one place where they congregate is the "Articles for Creation" WikiProject. The draft already has an "Articles for Creation" template. If you submit it, I will decline the submission because both the topic and the content fail the inclusion standards, but that does not mean that the draft is not okay. The draft is okay. The article that might come to be were that draft to be moved to article space would not be okay. It might be better to reply to this message on the draft's talk page and ping me there instead of replying here. —Alalch E. 15:53, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

Creation of page query

Hello Liz. 4 years ago you prevented the Wikipedia page creation of Harriet Mathews, British diplomat. Harriet served as Ambassador to Somalia from 2015-16, a Director General (highly senior government employee) at UK Foreign Office (FCDO) from 2022-2025 and is married to well known politician, Baron David Frost, de facto making her Lady Frost though she doesn’t use the title.
