MCMXC a.D. (1990) introduced the project’s signature fusion of Gregorian chant and hip-hop rhythm. The lead single Sadeness (Part I) reached #1 in more than twenty countries and remained on the US Billboard 200 for over 300 consecutive weeks, one of the longest runs of any debut album in chart history.

The Cross of Changes (1993) expanded the sonic palette into worldbeat and ethnic music. The single Return to Innocence, built around an indigenous Taiwanese folk vocal, became one of the defining crossover hits of the decade.

Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! (1996) synthesised motifs from the first two albums into a unified work, what Cretu describes as the child of its predecessors. The track The Child in Us, with its Sanskrit vocals, asks the central questions of existence.

The Screen Behind the Mirror (2000) introduced classical elements as a compositional layer, built around sampled passages from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, featured in Gravity of Love.

Voyageur (2003) shifted toward pop-oriented electronica and contemporary songwriting structures, marking Enigma’s most pop-accessible phase.

A Posteriori (2006) moved into expansive, cosmic soundscapes. It represents an ambient, space-influenced meditation on time, science, and the universe.

Seven Lives Many Faces (2008) combined orchestral arrangement with modern electronic rhythm, returning to the project’s layered, cinematic roots.

The Fall of a Rebel Angel (2016) revisits foundational themes through a narrative concept. It marks a symphonic, chillout, and ambient work exploring themes of redemption and transformation.
