Technical Documents (TDs) are publications of the Technical Council that have an overall purpose of informing members and the public of the state of technology in areas represented by the Technical Committees. They comment on the currently available technology and applications, as well as seek to identify new and future directions and comment on their technical capabilities or shortcomings.
The intended publications are different from the Standards Documents and from the Journal Papers as their goal is not to state a policy or support for a technical method, device or principle, but to provide information that represents a collective knowledge of a group of experts.
Depending on the specific needs in each area, a wide range of publications can be foreseen, from a general overview to a highly technical analysis in text, recordings, online publications, and other formats.

Perceptual Audio Coders: What to Listen For CD
In January of 2002, The Audio Engineering Society’s Technical Council launched a tutorial project on CD-ROM, “Perceptual Audio Coders: What to Listen For.” Developed by the Technical Committee on Coding of Audio Signals, and produced by Dr. Markus Erne, the unique CD-ROM was the first of its kind produced by the AES. It has since been developed to freflect modern perceptual audio coding.
Real-time Multichannel Audio Over The Internet
On 1999 September 26 at the AES 107th Convention in New York, members of the Technical Committee on Network Audio Systems demonstrated the first-ever real-time transmission of DVD-quality, multichannel audio over the Internet.

On October 25 2000 at the AES 109th Convention in New York, members of the Society’s Technical Committee on Network Audio Systems presented a demonstration of the Internet transmission of multichannel music in high-resolution, production quality 24bit/96kHz PCM.
