Ms. Harakiri (Ms.ハラキリ?), also known as Sweets Manson, is a playable character in Contra: Rogue Corps. She is a famed assassin specializing in stealth and infiltration. After barely escaping death during the Alien Wars, she fused together with an alien known as the Inner Demon, who now takes residence in her midsection and with whom she now lives together in a symbiotic relationship.

She was voiced by Katie Boren and the Inner Demon was voiced by Michael Liscio, Jr.

Named as Sweets Manson, she makes an appearance in Contra: The Board Game. She is one of four playable Contra members, with her specific player color being violet.

History[]

Member of the Rogue Corps squad.

She is a deadly assassin with incomparable skills and was feared by both foes and allies during the Alien Wars.

She fought with the strongest of the aliens in a duel, but both were fatally wounded, and ended with no other choice than to fusion in order to survive, resulting in the alien living in Ms. Harakiri's belly.

However, the alien is constantly lurking on an opening to take control of its host's body, which is why Ms. Harakiri always has her mighty sword Muramasa stuck in her belly to seal the alien's power.

They don't get along very well, but sometimes when they are up against the wall she removes the sword to unleash the alien's power.
~ Description from the official Contra: Rogue Corps official website.

At one point during an open press conference with the President, General Phoenix stole Sweet's Muramasa and used it to stab the president from behind. The removal of the blade causes her to lose control over to her alien within. Kaiser was able to subdue the General, but after a few words, the former let the latter go in order to subdue the alien. While Sweets was spared from a soldier mauling, Phoenix took this opportunity to label the Rogue Corps as traitors who killed the president, leaving the team no choice but to flee the scene.

Thanks to Kaiser's quick thinking on tricking the General into confessing his murder, the Rogue Corps were cleared of the false charges against them.

Gameplay[]

Ms. Harakiri uses a small sidearm as her aesthetic weapon of choice. Her skill is known as the MAX Strike, which increases her attack power and speed temporarily. It is highly useful for maneuverability and dispatching foes quickly.

Her Sister H DLC alters her Finishing Move move. As the camera pans around her lower torso, she kicks a Gold Fiend on the head, then she brandishes a Nunchaku from inside the Inner Demon in her stomach, unleashing multiple strikes on the enemy before she finishes it off with a mighty chi force palm strike.

Her weapon wings DLC shirt is the R power-up. This may reference Harakiri's speed from her Skill.

Notes[]

  • The preview trailer labels her with the term "Killer". This could be due to how she can quickly kill many enemies thanks to her alien gut bucket (or it could reference the alien's nasty nature itself). Her skill could easily attest to this label. Notably she also wields the Muramasa, a weapon rumored to grow stronger with each blood kill.
  • Ms. Harakiri has a prosthetic left leg likely gained after her narrow death from the Alien Wars. This can be seen clearly during certain cutscenes or in gameplay where the camera zooms in closely.
    • The Sister H DLC skin changes her physical appearance in a way that replaces the prosthetic leg with a natural human leg.
  • When using a Bomb attack, a whisper can be heard by the Inner Demon, which sounds like a command: "Let me out.".
  • Ms. Harakiri appears to parallel that of Hard Corps's own Sheena Etranzi, being the sole playable female character. Both also appear visually similar.

Trivia[]

  • Her nickname, Harakiri, and the fact that she plunges a sword through her belly to keep the Inner Demon in line, is a reference to the real life act of hara-kiri (better known as seppuku), a ritualistic form of suicide mainly used by samurais during medieval times in Japan that involves cutting one's stomach with a blade.
    • This is further reflected by her "Sorry.." Emote, where she performs an identical action.
  • Her surname being 'Manson' and having a blade through her abdomen may be a reference to Charles Manson, an American criminal and cult leader who was indirectly responsible for several murders in the late 1960s.
  • The monster on her body has a similar appearance to the one seen on Getsu Fuma's armor.
  • Ms. Harakiri's Cyborg H. DLC outfit may may have been inspired by Raiden's attire from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (a hack-n-slash title by Konami). Both protagonists also utilize a Blade in combat.
  • Ms. Harakiri is the only member of the Rogue Corps to make a reappearance in another game.
  • Notably, her alien monster is missing from Contra: The Board Game. It is unknown if she possesses the creature inside her during the time of the Board Game's events, as it only takes place two months after the Alien Wars.
    • It is also unknown if she has a prosthetic leg at this time. Her card artworks either crop her lower body or obscure her left leg from sight.
